Hi, i have just seen a 5513 Submariner with MK1 Maxi dial, serial 5,479 xxx
The lume plots are very white and really stand out. The hands also match colour.
When I held a strong torch to it the plots and hands did not glow at all.
Is this normal for the 5513 MK1 Maxi dials?

Awesome info.
I read somewhere, I think in this forum or Watchuseek that Rolex is just on strontium aluminate without the rare earth elements.
Rare earth elements Europium and Dysprosium are added for a brighter and longer lasting glow in Super Luminova. While Lumi Brite is Strontium Aluminate added with Europium and Dysprosium. That is why Seiko and LUM TEC lights up like Christmas tree and have the best lume in the market. So far.

My 1971 1016 Explorer matches your description completely: Flat application of the lume; lume is dead in both visible and UV light; light cream tint to the lume; hands and dial match. I don't know for sure if they are original, but they compare favorably to original examples I've seen.

This helped solve why the tritium lume markers on several of my 70’s watches became darker over the years even while locked away in darkness…
I was under the wrong impression that daylight would make them patina…
