So sorry if this is a stupid question... 116234 DateJust Datewheel......
I've seen some 36mm 116234 Datejusts with the blue dial without the roulette datewheel, and some with it.
Is there an option? I'm hours away from pulling the trigger and I can't seem to find any reasoning as to the difference. Am I missing something? Sorry again if this is a dumb Q to ask. |

I knew the blue had it, though i too have seen some without... it's easy to check it on the watch before you buy it.

My observation is the majority of 116234s are made without the roulette date display.

I think it's a mod?
Sometimes, roulette wheels are fitted to those models only with a smooth bezel as opposed to fluted or visa-versa it seems. You'll have to do your homework to find out. |

I bought my 116234 with fluted bezel & blue dial, and roulette date wheel and have seen other dials with the roulette date at ADs too.
I'd talk to your AD about its availability. |

Are you sure it was a Datejust and not an Oyster Perpetual 36? 116000

There are a bunch of past threads on TRF about which DJ36 models have the roulette wheel and how to tell. At least in past I think it was just some dials and not others (in the Rolex dial catalogue the ones with an “*” have the roulette). But of course dials are changed on Datejusts sometimes so you could see the roulette with any dial; that doesn’t mean Rolex made it that way.

But you are not regarding your conclusion. Not any DJ dial could have had the roulette date wheel. That is specific (not an option) for certain dials, always the same list, except for dial that are removed from the catalog. Actual Steel DJ's dials with roulette are the Black , Blue , White with stick indexes and Black with arabic concentric numerals. In the past we also had Black Arab, Black Arab Jubilé, Blue Arab Concentric, Pink, Silver/Black, Steel Arab Concentric, Steel/Silver, White Arab. All these dials have been removed from catalog years after years. There's a similar list of dials for YG/SS and RG/SS rolesor models. |

As of right now according to my AD, the stick dials have the roulette wheel and the romans do not

Sorry Alpino, I was unclear. What I meant was, sometimes dealers or watchmakers swap dials on Datejusts (I am told). So that could result in a “non-roulette dial” appearing on a watch with a roulette day wheel — the point being, just because you might be able to find a picture on the internet of a DJ with XYZ dial with a roulette wheel, doesn’t mean that was an actual Rolex configuration.

Still no reason as to why some are and some aren't.
There's a 36mm in Goldsmiths by me without a roulette (it's blue, jubilee, fluted bezel etc) Absolutely clueless haha |

The roulettes allow you to chart your splurge/fasting plans. A good little feature methinks.
Red: no meat, dairy or sweets nothing above 1,000 calories. Black: anything goes up to 5,000 calories. Or your workouts... Black: maximum effort, long distances, increased levels. Red: recovery exercise, cross-train, easier pace/effort. Or just about anything where a little alternating color can remind you what should be done on that day. Sent from my iPhoneX using Tapatalk

Roulette date is a beauty; my 116200 had it.
