Do you also prefer MSRP on a PM model or would you prefer the 25% lower price from the grey dealer ?

I’ve heard that some ADs are partnering with grey sellers. Obviously it wouldn’t be a good idea for ADs to sale over retail price directly so they probably are making nice profits by jacking up the prices and have someone else do the transaction. But who knows

Thanks. Been lucky last few weeks. Walked into ad never heard of while visiting old colonial town< Bought Blnr for msrp on the spot. Number #1 on waitlist for special order sky d with 50% down. You can def get what you want without getting gouged by some of our trusted sellers. I am all for capitalism but hoping Rolex will be able to clamp down on this problem.

My local AD just got a Bluesy and a deepsea blue. buy the bluesy at MSRP and take a loss. I could buy the deep sea and make a few hundred. Maybe, I should become a grey dealer....

No. I was referring to ss demand models to clarify. I think most ad’s will do 15-20 % on pm piece , possible 25% yg here in USA. If grey can do 30% on new pm... I might consider. I have no problem buying preowned from trusted seller but price for ss pieces are ridiculous. |

I see a lot of people talking about grey market’s inflated prices. What about when you save 10k like I just did? I’ve always bought from an AD. This is the first time I went grey and purchased from a great TS I found here on the forum. As many people explained in a thread I started, the warranty is transferable. So really my question is why would any one ever buy from an AD??? I may never again and I have 3 within 8 miles of where I live with plenty of inventory.
Of course back to this thread, I asked the TS where he got the watch. I’m under the impression that many greys do a lot of business with certain AD’s so they get watches and are able to sell them at a profit. Mine still had all the stickers on it. |

That truly depends on the watch. A BLNR at an AD is cheaper than going to a grey market dealer right now. The cheapest BLNR on chrono24 is $9400. So, in this instance, going to an AD is the cheaper route. You can also get a discount off retail.

I'm still not sold on grey dealers for new watches...used ones, maybe, but it depends. My new 216570 was $500 cheaper brand new from an AD than the cheapest new I could find from a grey dealer.

I don't know about the other countries but Explorer 2 and Milgauss aren't exactly best seller models in Malaysia. The last time I checked at the Rolex boutique, both models were still on display in the glass cabinet.(The Explorer II will eventually be sold to customer or a another grey trader but difficult to move the Milgauss). However Grey dealers here were offering a BNIB unworn 6 digit Polar for US$ 7K, cheaper than the boutique. I notice buyers prefer the 5 digit Explorer II especially the ones fitted with the 3186 movement

This is interesting to me. I have a question regarding grey dealers vs. trusted sellers. For example Jomashop vs a TRF trusted seller.
Are both sourcing the watches in a similar way? From a true grey market like Jomashop, you typically don't get a warranty card but you get an "in-house" warranty. By not giving out a warranty card, it would be tough to know from what AD the watch actually originated, in a way they're protecting their "source." I'm sure Rolex could track the serial, but I'm looking at just surface level here. For a trusted seller, often the warranty cards are blank. Does this not put their AD source at risk to some degree? |

Just my 2 cents.
All the watches comes from Rolex and are sold through ADs. In today's digital age not having a online POS sale can be challenging. You can buy JLC, TAGs, Omega and other brands online! They are customers who don't have an AD nearby, or who prefer buying online just for convenience, plus it saves you sales tax! An AD cannot sell watches online, they partner with a grey dealer, who can sell their slow moving inventory online, reaching to a far wider audience! Something that isn't moving and is sold by a grey dealer at a cheaper price but still brings profit to the AD. Like PM models etc. And a premium/hard to find model sells for a premium(ADs cannot sell at a premium either). ADs and grey seller can share the profit on premium models. It's a win win situation for the AD. The grey seller makes profit and provides extra service to customers(used watches, limited versions etc, old stock)- but has low overheads! Like Rolex, PP and A. Lange are only sold through ADs, but you find them at grey dealers easily and can buy one online. It is hard to move watches when you don't have enough walk in customers! |

I can see maybe 20% above and moving some of the slow sales along with a few hot items make perfect sense!

My guess is 50% comes directly from AD’s. Gray sellers buy in bulk and take hard to sell items like platinum and gold models. But in return they get a fair discount on SS models. The AD gets to unload a watch that otherwise may have sat for a very long time. Although the gray dealer may not make money on the PM piece they are sure to make it on the SS models.
The other half comes from regular people. Whether it’s an intentional flip or someone just selling a watch they’re no longer interested in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
