1955 submariner
I inherited my fathers rolex submariner model 6536/1. Serial # 112xxx. Serial number lookup at Bob’s Watches said it is a 1955. It has “BREVET” on top of model # between the horns and a red triangle on the bezel. It also has the original steel watchband. I have received an offer for it but I wanted to know how rare and valuable this watch may be. I am not looking for an appraisal or an offer. I just don’t want to sell it for a lot less than it is worth.

will go out on a limb and say its probably worth more than whatever offer you got..
check what the selling price is for 6536 - plenty of resources to look that up. |

There's an old saying that I'm reminded of:
"Pictures or it didn't happen" In all seriousness though. We would love to see some pics of that beauty.

Thanks for info. Not in a hurry to sell it. Might just keep it. Any additional info greatly appreciated.

It can be worth a (small) fortune so don't sell it without thorough research.

It’s hard to tell from a couple of pictures and without seeing what’s inside, but I have seen 6536 go for over $300k. Better get it insured. Not saying this one is worth that money, but it’s definitely worth appraising by an expert.

Thanks for posting the pics. Several potential buyers say the dial has been “restored” or “repainted”. Evidently the radium flaked off easily and many of these faces have been “repaired”, negatively affecting the value. It seems the bezel is quite valuable and that helps the watch’s overall value.

Dial may be original, but it was definetly refinished.
I like it. Still a survivor by my estimation. Like anything else in a non-disposable world, the dial was refinished after the radioactive lume ate the markings away. Still has value....just less than if the owner had not not had the dial freshened up 50 years ago. |
