Advice on 1st Rolex!
Hi there! I'm from NYC, for my birthday I'm going to go to DE (since it's tax free) to get the Explorer II black or white dial ref 216570.
I was wondering if seeking 10% off too ambitious from the ADs down there? What would be a good discount to settle with? I'm also open to anyone suggesting other dealers for a new or like new condition from a trusted dealer on these forums! Thanks for any advice, again I am completely new to this world and any appreciate any help! |

All they can do is say no. I asked for 10% off my 114060 two weeks ago from a smaller family owned AD and they gave it to me no questions asked.

Try a few on when you are there. You may find other ones you like too or more than the exp. I suspect maybe 10% may be possible on a slower selling model like the exp 2 however. It’s a great watch though.

Guys thanks for the great responses, my heart is set on the Explorer 2 though, I have tried on many models and I fell in love with that one. I will go ahead and attempt for 10% with maybe 5% being my minimum asking off, will go to a few ADs down there and see what happens!

For the best deal, a TS is your best option. AD makes sense if you want to establish a long-term relationship.

Get the one that sings to you the most. There’s no harm in asking for a discount.

I just bought a polar 216570 yesterday from Sydney Thomas in Christiana mall. Asked for a little discount and she told me very politely no. Said they don’t discount the stainless professionals like the sub, gmt, and explorers. But if you want the TT Daytona or WG gmt they will gladly as they have had them a while. I bought the only polar that just came in this week but they have a black in stock. I absolutely love it.

If you want an EXPII for your first Rolex then damn it, that is what it shall be.
Get the watch you want and enjoy it and good luck on the hunt. |

If you are truly after a White dial then go for it.
With a Black dial your options are broader. My first Rolex was a 5 digit EXP II. Didn't regret it one bit and it started me on my journey to where I am now. I often reflect fondly on the virtues of that watch even though it's gone now. |

Happy Birthday!
My experience has been that ADs located in shopping malls offer little to no discount. Smaller family owned ADs offer discounts, and great service. Build a relationship with a smaller AD in a neighboring state, and you can avoid paying state tax. They are happy to cover the cost of shipping or delivery. You will not get this level of service from a chain, or mall AD. Peace. |

Take a look and see what they're going for on the TRF classifieds or watchrecon.com and then take that number shopping with you.
Afraid there's not much in discounts on the table these days, but if you do your comparison shopping before you visit the AD, then at least you know what you'll be willing to pay. |

Very easy and seamless process. Like another poster said, check the rolex classifieds brotha. Check the reviews for sellers on “ whos, who” and make a purchase. Theres explorers listed for sale almost daily and for thousands less than new, very easy to find. Good luck

Thanks for this tid bit, I guess I'll check the classifieds and if I see something I'll search the seller on the whos who thread! If nothing sticks though guess I'll be going to check out some ADs this coming week!

as others have said first should be the Rolex YOU like.
I’d go black dial though. |
