Steve McQueen, did he have to make a choice?

I know Steve McQueen wore a Sub, but did he have the option to choose one with a date? Just wondering if he intentionally picked the ND.

Let me check with John Edwards. I’m sure he can ask Steve.

Appreciate that, let me know what he has to say!
More or less I’m asking was the sub date in production at that time.

Sub model 1680, first one with the date function, came into production in the late '60s. Don't know when Mr. McQueen got his Rolex but he perhaps had a choice.

He didn't have to make a decision he's Steve McQueen! He could've taken his ND, waved his hand and poof, Date!

I think he sported an Explorer as well - choices he certainly had. I met his grandson at a Motorsport racing school. Nice kid. Looked a lot like his grandfather.

That’s when the “list” first started!! He was 7th on the list so had to settle for the ND until date makes it in! Lol

McQueen was smart enough to know that Submariners don't have dates.

He did indeed have a choice.
He picked the Chronometer.

I seem to recall reading that he bought his Sub in '67 or '68 ish, so maybe before the date Sub was released.

I meant it categorically...I.e. an inconsequential refreshment.

Work with me.

James Bond's and Steve McQueen's Subs, the ultimate in cool, imho! Should also add Paul Newman's Daytona of course. Cheers!

Wasn’t “The Great Escape” about his adventures trying to smuggle his Sub out of Switzerland without paying duty?
