Photos

hey dave,
im going to be stright up with you
the reason im selling this watch is
ive just found out my girl friend is pregent
and i am unemployed at the moment
so im in a bit of trouble
and it is my first kid and want to do things right.
so need to sell this watch asap for hospital and doctor fees and that
which are going 2 kill me
will sell for cheap
ive been offered 1100 on ebay
but i think he is stuffing me around
and the reason ebay canceled the auction was of the quality of the photos
but i got my girl friends mum to take some pictures she has a really good camera
the picture i took was with my girlfriends mobile so it dident turn out good but thats all i have
the watch was a gift from my grandfather who is now retired and living at surfers paradise
its under 1 year old maybe just abit over at most
and is in perfect condition no scratchs marks nothing and works like new
its a beautiful peice
i have never worn it (to scared i would get robbed for it or something)
but yeah if your interested make an offer
if you could get back to me asap that would be great thanks

Opinions?

Intriguing story Dave....

The crown guard and the bezel look good to me but the pearl and the endlinks do not (the endlink on the 6 o'clock side in the second photo looks especially funky to me, but it could be the reflection).

Based on the second photo, however, it looks like it has had a polish and shows some dings that would make me doubt it is one year old - but maybe this is also an issue with the reflection.

Even if the photos show a legit watch, the question is whether those are really his photos?

I would offer to meet him at a dealer if you are close. It doesn't make sense that he would be willing to take so little money for that watch when a dealer or pawn shop would clearly give him more....

Forgotto mention...

...does it strike anyone as strange that in the first photo he holds it in his hand while in the next set it is in some blue velvet presentation case? More support for the stolen photo theory....

Story

gingi310,

You are right.
In his original eBay listing he said that he had taken the watch to Cash Converters (A large chain of pawn shops here in Australia) and a Jeweller buddy of his. Why doesn't sell it to cash converts? or his buddy the Jeweller?

I too think that they are most likely stolen photos. I have been searching the net but I have not found them yet.

Yes the watch is obviously more than a year old.
I don't know where the seller is located. I can't remember what the listing said. I could ask.
Yep something is strange

the first pic is grainy, then seller comes with two "nicer" photos" (just two) why not take a whole bumch, you got the watch with the camera girl in-house. The watch is probably not genuine because any desperate seller can get more going into a rolex dealership or jewlery store, hell try a pawn shop, if this is a genuine pre-owned two-tone sub, even from pre 90's, would fetch for certain $1300-$1500 easy. The watch appears to be from the early 90's vintage, far from barly worn or year old, but decent condition nevertheless for the ear of the overall look, letter serial two-tone sub from 1989 and up in nice condition ( 75-80% band up) will sell all day for 2500K and upwards as the years go on. No need to haggle and semm suspect online for what, few hundred bucks more than $1100. Overall the photos are of an genuine watch, could not find a discrepency from what angles provided, however, due to the story line, and lack of more photos, this guy is a fraud without a doubt, a legitimate confident seller needs no sob story and no lowball price, if the guys knows its a rolex and understands even the smallest concept of value retention he would not be lettiing a genuine watch in such condition go for an unheard of price, even out of desperation most will still make an effort to get the most value out of their watch.
