Modify my SS Daytona?

I have the opportunity to change the thin hands on my K series SS Daytona (black) to the so-called fat hands that started to appear on Daytonas during the F series, as I recall. The RSC suggested this as an option when I noted the luminova on the thin hands is difficult to see. This came up because at my request RSC is changing my dial back to black (using the original dial for my watch). I had changed to a white dial a few years ago.

I would retain the original thin hands so if I were to eventually sell (unlikely) the watch to a purist, the original configuration would be available. I would have to give up the hands for the white dial in return for the new hands.

Part of me believes this is not a good thing to do (I usually oppose modifying the basic watch from the original), but I already have trouble reading dials when I'm wearing my contacts, so the fat hands seem like a good idea. In one sense, the thin hands seem more sleek and in line with the basic design of the dial, but I am into practicality these days. I know it's my watch and I can do what I want, etc., but I was just wondering if anyone has an opinion on this, or has done it. As I recall, the so-called fat hands started appearing in the F series before the RRR on the rehaut; so except for the enthusiast who checks the serial number, I don't think there would be any visible discrepancy apparent from adding the fat hands.

This is sort of an "eat crow" moment for me as I usually oppose any modification to the original watch.

I would appreciate any thoughts, comments, recommendations, opinions, etc. on this proposed modification. For example, is there an important factor I haven't considered?

Thanks,

Otto

I thought that under current policy there is no way the RSC is going to let you walk away with spare parts.

To be perfectly honest what a extra 1mm in hand width going to do,my advice leave it alone as it was made.

Actually, I have the fat hands on my 116528 and I can see the luminova quite well, unlike the SS Daytona with thin hands; so at least for my eyes, there is a substantial difference.

With that one statement i'd say go for it, you have the original hands safely stowed away, you get to view the time easier and you have it all planned out for getting them changed over, i can't see a single problem, forget about the purist stuff, it's not an irreversable modification, this is a simple changeover that can be reversed if you ever sell the watch, only you will benefit and notice the change.

I would change them out, what's the point of wearing a watch that you can't see the time on!

Without hesitation I would get the wider section hands.

What have you lost..........nothing.

What have you gained..........added practical visibility and functionality, the original hands (which would ordinarily be lost to Rolex).

Finally, you still have a 100% full Rolex watch. So there is no downside from my perspective.
