What’s up with this 1675 Gilt Dial?
stepped into a shop and found this 1675 Gilt Dila with gold specks on the dial. is this a starburst dial? something worth picking up?!

Its terrible, don't bother with it, but feel free to send the location address this way ;) on a serious note, this is typical on gilt dials from 1964-66. Considered a tropic stardust dial. Occurs when the tritium dust from the hour markers sit throughout the dial for a long period of time along with different light/darkess exposures to the dial, ie if its in a safe, or a very cool aired space. Hope this helps. |

It happens to be in Japan where I am visiting for the moment. The dealer is selling it for around $24k USD. I have 30 mins to pick it up tomorrow before I head home =)
also thanks for the details on the dial! |

Let us know, does anything come with the watch for $24k? More pics if you have them or if you picked it up!

no box or papers but a 7206 bracelet with a 58 end link. I'll post a Japan trip report when I get back home with all the pictures!

It is called a damaged dial. Don't let any of those fancy dealer names like stardust, pixie dust or whatever the moniker is this week confuse you.

Like some have noted here, it technically is indeed a damaged dial, however, many collectors fancy them and don’t mind and some prefer that type of look. It’s all about preference. Premium fetches dials that are free from swirlies, bubbles, wear etc IMHO $24k seems way hight for this. Some where around 15 seems right. Good luck. Personally I like the look.

Great write-up, jyn! Thanks so much for taking the time to post all that. On Saturday, I’ll be staying at hotel just a couple stops from JN Times, so I’ll definitely pop in there. I’m wearing my ‘67 5512 on this trip. I’m curious if any of these shops would make an offer. Not that I’m eager to sell it, but you never know....
