Proud Dad Seeking Your Experience
My son just completed the arduous and seemingly random process of applying to colleges. He is an acccomplished young man who landed a half dozen acceptances. He has narrowed his selection down to Georgetown, Duke and Notre Dame.
He currently thinks he wants to study business but wants a broad and diverse academic experience. We have only visited Georgetown so far. So have any of you had experience with these schools as an undergraduate that you can share? Lastly, he is a good kid but thinks watches are frivolous. Please don't judge him for this he is young. Thanks in advance! |

Congrats to your son - all great schools. Can't go wrong with Duke (my alma mater)! I was an Econ major and now work in finance. Duke has great programs for this, and many other areas (and is great for things other than just academics). I'm happy to discuss in more detail if you'd like.

The career fairs will give you a good idea of who recruits there. I'd highly reco you asking their career center for who are the companies that come year over year to recruit there.

Duke. DC is toxic and south bend is bleak outside of Saturday’s during football season.

Some nice schools, congrats to your son!
I would say that Duke would be the right choice, but it matters most what he thinks. |

First congrats to him - all great programs.
I have friends that went to all three. I'd vote Duke or G'Town. I'd also think of where he wants to end up after school - ND usually means Chicago, Duke usually means Charlotte, Georgetown usually means DC. All different cities with many great attributes. Something to think about. |

Not knowing much of anything about any of these schools academically this was the best answer. what do I know though I missed out on campus life getting my degree at various education centers on Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corp bases.. University of Ft. Shafter, Pearl Harbor, Hickam AFB and Camp Smith. |

My son has travelled since the age of 15 to places such as Guatemala, India, and a variety of economically challenged communities in the US to improve people's lives. He is acutely aware of how lucky he is to be an Ameriacan. Once again thank you! |

My Dad taught law at georgetown. UMD and Rollins are interesting as well. I would personally recommend Rollins.

For long weekends about 90 minutes to Easton and St. Michael's for crabs and boating. I would say DC is one of the best cities in the world. There are some serious businesses there too, it's not just a government town like some people wrongly assume. |

Duke would be my choice. Awesome collegiate environment, southern hospitality and a top notch education.
He is obviously a very accomplished young man to have those options. Well done! Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk |

Rollins
I am not specifically knowledgeable about Rollins but he is not interested in liberal arts schools of that size. In all candor he has gained acceptance to several of the more prominent names but has narrowed it down to the mid sized universities I mentioned.

I can't comment on the specific schools, but I would add if he thinks he wants to study business I would suggest thinking about a career, where he would like to work etc. and what schools those types of Firm's/Companies target.
Huge congrats to you, your wife, and your son! As others have stated I'm sure you're incredibly proud of your son, well deserved! If he goes to Duke and is an incoming freshman their basketball team is stacked next year, which should make for great entertainment if he's into basketball. |

Business school brings many opportunities. It's good to see he's into this and once he's got an idea of what exactly he would like to do afterwards or for which company this is where the aforementioned advice provided by members in this thread comes into play. The school that makes it more likely or easiest for him to land that position in the company of his choice gets bonus points. So many factors to consider here but in my humble opinion it's pretty much a win-win long term. Congrats again and wishing him all the best on this journey |

Anyway, I took some classes at Georgetown, it was a decent experience. Lots of wealthy students, which can be staggering if you are not familiar with private cars waiting for kids at the corner. In terms of brand name, I would put Duke ahead of Georgetown. A good student can be successful in most schools, just need to watch out for distractions and bad habits. Congrats, btw! |
