Strange Cartier Watch - Dial can't be identified
Hello Everyone,
I purchased this Cartier Santos about 5 weeks ago from a vintage watch dealer in San Francisco. I knew the watch was special when I saw it. The watch came with the original box and it has never been polished and its in near mint condition. The original owner rarely wore it. According to the dealer, the original owner purchased the watch new in the Paris boutique in the mid 1980's. The dial is signed "Paris" at the bottom instead of "Swiss". The watch sat in a safe from many years until the owner sold it to him. I sent this piece to the Cartier Service Center in Dallas to see if they could tell me what kind of stone the dial is made out of. They told me that the dial is called "Pantherreisen" however they couldn't tell me what that meant. Has anyone ever seen this dial on another Cartier? I know Christie's auctions sold the ladies version of this piece at a recent auction but they just stated it was stone. (This is the only other one I have seen with this dial). What do you guys think? I'm also looking for two links if anyone has them. I need some extra links to wear the watch. Thanks |

Here is Christie's ad for the only piece I could find with the same dial.
