Is it crazy to think I could find a 16750 for under 10k? I purchased a 14060 thinking it would be like a newer Tudor 7928, which is now my special occasion watch since it was my grandfather's. I like the 14060 but just not as much as I thought I would. It doesn't have the same connection/appeal as the Tudor, not sure if it's because of the sentiment or the vintage. So I've been looking and came across the 1675s and 16750s. They are more unique and less like what I have.

The end plan for this watch is my son will be born in July and SWMBO said I could get a watch to pass on. This may be my only chance to pick one with her permission. We do love to travel and hope to do so extensively in our lives so getting a GMT is maybe it's a good way to not forget that dream or traveling. I hope to wear this watch every day and am thinking that a GMT may not be as recognized as a Sub. Which means traveling with it might draw less attention.

So between keeping the 14060 or selling it for a 1675 or 16750 (matte dial, of course). What would you do for an heirloom watch?
I might be able to go up to 13-14k but it would be a month or so before that.

I love the GMT idea because of your love to traveling. Ihherited watches are valuable because of who was the previous owner and its significance for him. However I would suggest buying one GMT Master II new. Something that for your son belongs to your era and the one where he was born, and that has been only weared by his dad. I still keep my dad's watch after him passing out in 1998 and I will keep for life.

10K won't get you far if you're after a 1675 or a matte 16750 unless you're not that picky about condition. I always try to get the best example that I can reasonable afford so at that price point I'd go for a tritium dial 16710 in fantastic condition. They are not easy to find but they still come up from time to time.

I think you're looking at a very nice 1675 in a month or so. Use this forum extensively, from the sales board to here, where you should post pics of candidates before pulling the trigger.

Also, I imagine its the Pepsi insert you like, that feature sets it apart from many of the other sports models with a black insert. Unfortunately, you can't get a new Pepsi for under $25k as they only come in white gold.

I do love the Pepsi insert but also believe that I love the acrylic crystals and the no white gold surrounds. I feel like it brings some warmth and character to the watch. This is what had me look at the 16710s but decide that if I was going to do that then I should just keep the 14060 since there is only a few cosmetic differences.

16750 is the best of all worlds when it comes to Rolex sport watches - you get the warmth of the matte dial/acrylic crystal on the early versions but get the upgraded quickset movement that makes it much more practical. I love my Mk1 16750 from 1981 (my birth year).

That being said I also have a BLNR bought new with my name on all the paperwork I intend to pass down to my son at some point as well.

Date & GMT hand are not cosmetic!

I am with you on no gold surrounds. I think 16750/1675 could be the watch for you.

The BLNR is designed not to age, and they are all over the place and have a loooooonnnnng time until depreciation stops and appreciation begins, IMHO. Also they are pretty big on the wrist.

Then the complete flipside is I could sell the 14060 and get a 16700 or 16710 as the do everything watch and just understand that it can take more of a beating than the 1675/0. Especially since I have the vintage/sub role filled.
