I love the fact that people are missing the huge point that Rolex has created the shortage in the first place. All they have to do is make more of them and there will be no flipping for a profit.
So first I have to beg them to take my money. Sign this ridiculous agreement that says that after a long waiting time when they finally take my money they still control what i paid in full for 3 years.
I am not a flipper just another crazy Rolex fun that is now being punished for wanting their product! I think i have to get another hobby to support .
Yes you can have two dials - its just that the AD in question (may not) sell you another Daytona. This is only one of three ADs in the area.

Rolex has not created the problem. Increased demand has. Individuals masquerading as genuine buyers and walking to the nearest grey and flipping for profit has.

No one is being punished.

I said it on another thread. We need to stop acting like spoiled brats who can't get what they want and throw a tantrum. We have no "right" to be able to walk into an AD and buy anything. The retailer, however, has an absolute right of who they chose to sell to and the conditions of that sale.

But it will not work unless it is mandated by Rolex or unified.
This is not really accurate, ADs here are under tremendous pressure from Rolex and those that have been caught selling to greys and flippers will be on last chance warnings from Rolex. So for those ADs this is a good demonstration to Rolex, they don't care about this customer and it's not about them at all, that they have done their best to hurt the grey market, which is all that ADs care about, for the day of reckoning will be soon coming from Rolex in deciding which ADs lose their franchise.

I am not surprised to hear about this practice, I mentioned this issue on another post.

When I put my name down for a Hulk the AD said they would retain the warranty card for 2 years.

Now I understand that they are trying to ensure that these type of watches end up on wrists of horology enthusiasts as oppose to Del boy flogging them on the grey market.

However, if you purchased a freehold property or limited edition sports car- would you accept HM land registry or an Aston martin dealership keeping the property deeds or the car's log book.

Is there the possibility that these new type of AD's practices might make the current situation even worse and force future preowned prices even higher.....

Just a thought-what you guys think???
A warranty card isn't proof of ownership. So its not the same as property deeds or a car's log book. It doesn't stop you selling the watch, it just stops you selling the watch with the warranty card in the first 12 or 24 months of ownership (unless you speak nicely to the AD because you have a genuine reason for sale)

And I doubt very much that an AD holding the warranty card would not release it to you if, for example, you were buying another watch from them after say 15 months but had to sell your existing (card withheld) watch to do it.

When I purchase an item, it is mine to do with as I please. Cherish, sell, give away or drop it in the garbage disposal. I would never sign anything like that from an AD and seriously wonder what gives them the right to even contemplate such a request. Hey, to the OP I am glad you got your watch, Wear it in good health, but I don’t care WHAT the item is, if a seller tries to control what I do with an object AFTER I purchase it, they can go ... ... whistle Dixie.
No Paul, SOLD is not the key word.

When you purchase an item subject to terms and conditions of sale it is not yours to do with as you please. Well, of course you can, but you would be breaching the terms of that contract and subject to whatever penalty that brought to bear.

The AD has every right to impose whatever pre sale conditions they want to protect their agency. You, as the prospective purchaser, have every right to walk away and spend your money elsewhere.

Why is this so hard to accept?

Well, clearly not here in the US. How else would all these gray dealers get BNIB hard to get pieces at the volume that they do?

you cant.... happened to OP of another similar thread. The AD denied him since he bought the other dial a year earlier and from a different AD. Rolex knew and the AD had to run his name by them first. That wasn't even part of any agreement, its just the rule apparently. He isnt a flipper.

based on general availability minus maybe the daytona or sky dweller i don't think this will become a US issue. People are waiting years for a sub here. Its madness.

The US is so vast and spread out they have a geographical advantage as there are AD's over thousands of miles and they all get stock. The UK is small and really only a few cities where everything is concentrated and those cities also have a ton of big spenders and wealthy foreigners and a 20% included VAT is reclaimable. So its a lot of UK specific factors that have contributed to the situation.

Oh really? I would disagree based on my attempts to buy at AD's here. Still looking for one more (SD43) and coming up empty and have expanded my search to AD's in other markets. Dead.

I would rather go without than feel in somebody’s debt but that’s me.

That piece of paper to me says one thing - you owe me and I know it.

No thanks, not for anything let alone a watch.

Have you had this reviewed by counsel? Seems there’s some legal buffoonery at play there. But good on them for trying to reign in the grey market

Especially since it undoubtedly applies exclusively to us "commoners" that have the temerity to purchase a Daytona. Bet you Michael Jordan, Brad Pitt and D.J. Trump would never be presented with this type of "contract". I call BS.
