Airking why so little respect?
The Air King. What do you dislike about this watch?
I’ve seen them in practically every AD display. Always available and I’ve been offered significant discount on one nearly every time. Help me understand as I seem to like quirky watches. |

The dial is way too busy and disjointed looking for my tastes. Too many colors and finishes on the dial, the mix of 3,6,9 hour makrkers and the 5 minute indices...its quirky in a bad way.

I don’t dislike the Airking, I just never understood its place.
No oysterlock, not a fan of the B dial mixed with 3-6-9, and I would think the GMT series is the true pilots Rolex. The Exp I has the history, oysterlock, and the lume. Milgauss has the anti mag thing going for it. |

For myself, the dial is way too small. It would gain more attention if they made it a 43mm with a fluted bezel. Then I might be interested.

If I recall, after the release of the new Air King at Baselworld I think they hired a new Rolex president.
The design was not classic Rolex imo Look at the Basel world releases after the hire of this recent president, the new president would have never released the air king |

The AK indeed looks a bit quirky with mixing different size of many numbers and a few colors on its dial. It can always draw my attention when I see it, and however, I will never wear it.

I love quirky watches, mine is a white Milgauss. I’ll be honest, I think the new air king is an A+ watch. If you like it, go for it!

Don't look at me. I've always been an advocate for the BloodHound on the TRF

If Rolex had actually adopted the Bloodhound design, I would find it more appealing. Instead, they did a pastiche with the Explorer by using a rejected element of the now defunct 214270 mk. 1. It's a mishmash, and looks like Rolex trying too hard, rather than being classic.
Someone did a pretty good Photoshop of what it would have looked like if Rolex had gone straight Bloodhound. I think it looks a lot better, although it's still a fairly fringe design by Rolex standards. |

Airking why so little respect?
I still can't understand the Bloodhound SSC link as the last thing they would want is for the car to go airborne and become an AirKing?

So why didn’t they use that instead of what they actually did, a two hander with second time zone in a subdial, now that would’ve been a proper watch

Yet another indication Rolex was grasping at straws here. They took an interesting visual concept from a very cool automotive concept, then screwed up the design and stuck it in a model that has no relation to the thing from which the dial design was derived.

Just doesn't gel with me. The dial is just too busy, too many colours which are all off, and it is really un - rolex like. It is probably the only rolex sports model which I don't think will turn into a future classic.
Preferred the vintage Rolex Air King. |

I don’t know what Rolex was thinking. The dial is a mess. Would never even consider it.

I like it. It has original Rolex colours in logo. It takes some time to like it i think.
