Paneria 785 set
Hi All,
I mostly hang out on the Rolex "side", but I do wear my 510 in rotation so I guess I'm not a total outsider. Just curious, but I have a 785 set that has been in storage for a good while. I don't think I would wear them as I bought because it was an exclusive set. Boy, the lessons we learn when just starting out, exclusive just means until the next exclusive set comes out!!!!! When I part with them, does it make any sense to offer the 2 watches separate as an option to a buyer and break up the set. The truth is, I would not mind keeping and wearing the white daylight model, as I really like the white face more than the more popular black face. I hope this is ok to post as I am not fishing but asking the "experts".

IMO the set should remain complete, though I have seen them divided.
They are two important homage watches from Panerai’s pre-Vendôme (Richemont) era that should remain together. Most interestingly, the DLC watch was to be released late 1996/early 1997 as the 5218-18, but it never came to be due to the purchase by the Vendôme group in March 1997. The watch in the set is that watch finally coming to fruition, albeit with some modern design changes and an in-house movement. Sent from Beef’s iPad using Tapatalk |

panerai resale is soft..so it depends on how badly you want to move them.
with the right buyer..they may want just one of two...

You'd have a buyer in all of 1second if you sold the dlc separately.

I bought the 785 and kept it unworn for years. I really liked the set, but fell in love with the 786 set when that came out - my 785 suddenly felt inferior to me as the 786 checked a couple more boxes for me.
I tried to sell the 785 but could find a buyer willing to pay more than $12k for it (perhaps I wasn’t patient enough). In the end, I was able to craft a trade by bundling the 785+590 for the 786. Was it imbalanced? Perhaps, but I receive a lot more personal value of the 786. To answer your question on whether to keep the set together - the DLC likely has a higher market value vs the Daylight (at least it did when the set first came out). Regardless, as others have said, the pre-owned market is super soft right now and I find it hard to see this watch selling for close to its original retail anytime soon. As such, if you want to keep the Daylight and sell the DLC, do it! |

If you like the Daylight enough for it to be a "keeper", why not split the set and extract some value from something you never wear?

Thanks for all the input guys, seems a split might be the way to go, especially with such a soft market.. I'll just do some more digging and work up a pricing strategy.
thanks again Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

If you love one, but not the other, I say split the set. I have seen the pieces go separately on a few forums. Typically the Black Seal fetches closer to 8-10k whereas I have seen the Daylight go for less (6-7k). These are just numbers I have seen in the past and in no way indicative of the going rate now. I've seen sets offered anywhere from 13k-25k.
