Info about this 5512
I have a client who wants to sell me their Rolex 5512. I'm know modern Rolex but I'm not well versed in vintage Rolex. Case, bezel, and movement (1570) look OK to me but bracelet appears to be newer. Not sure about the dial either. Does watch look OK? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply. Is it cool that the caseback says 5513 but the reference number on the case itself is 5512?

yeah, definitely service dial and bezel insert, like what Jerimiah mentioned. 5512 service dial is distinguished by the wordings "submariner" above the depth rating. The fact that this service dial has "swiss - T<25" tells u that it is a rather early service dial.
5513 caseback is fine and generally accepted. If there's any incorrect info above, I gladly stand corrected. Hope this helps. Last edited by gman5515; 23 April 2018 at 04:19 PM.. Reason: spelling error |

If I read the case number correctly as 1414007 then it is consistent with another 5512 that I have come across, having a case number within 40 of same.
With watch numbers allocated to batches of a single model apparently made together throughout most of Rolex's history, you can at least conclude that if the case number is correct it very likely corresponds with the watch being a 5512. Case-back comments above are quite correct. Haywood

I would expect the original case-back to have perhaps a 1965 date-code, while the case number would appear to be c1966. It would be no surprise at all if that original back had been marked 5513.

The dial, insert, bracelet, caseback and (I guess) the crown are replacements...
5513 or 5512 engraved on the caseback it's usual, the problem is the year ('70) that doesn't match at all with the serial number ('76). |

1,414xxx is circa 1966 in my opinion.

Info about this 5512
I’d buy it if the price was right. Just got a 1675 with service dial. Also purchased my 5513 with service insert. But price justified the purchase in hopes to possibly find correct parts, or leave as is and have an affordable vintage piece that is still beautiful!
