Best place in Europe to buy Rolex-watches?
Hi you all!
What do you think: what is the best city/airport in Europe to buy Rolex; original retailer? Best variety of models in shop, some rare piece you have found etc. ? For example: I luckily found my SD43 straight from the Rolex shop, Lucerne, Switzerland, without waiting! That truly was amazing! And my Daytona I found from Amsterdam airport; just like that! if you are at the airport, just go to america. Europe stock is awful and the US is marginally better. Thats what i would do rather than trying to get lucky.

In Europe, I thought the Swiss Watch Boutique in Heathrow was a good location with competitive prices. However, the prices don't beat what is available in the US gray market. Just saying...

The lady wasn’t allowed to tell me about any stock availability. Good thing is I have a brother who works at the airport so have asked him to visit the store daily :) |

Italy for best discounts, and Germany. Nowadays, all Rolex ADs because, well, few have any decent stock so it's hit and miss.

You’re quite lucky. Watches of Switzerland in Heathrow can’t get hold of sports model at all.

It's hit or miss. I fly through there at least 4x per month and indeed you have to get lucky on the timing. Good news is no wait lists, there's more than one store in the airport to check, and they do get SS sports models in but they go very fast. If they have one, you can buy it for MSRP less VAT.

Does anyone know of a good AD in Rome, Capri, or Venice? I'll be there in June and figure it can't hurt to look!

A rolex submariner is 5165GBP in Heathrow. That's cheaper than any US retailer or Gray market.

its the same price with a vat refund anywhere in the UK. Good luck finding one though. Its no coincidence the price and the scarcity are related. A hulk at $7k for example.

There are two airside in the international terminal (one is the Rolex branded store next to the Omega store) and a Gassan shop by E concourse which carries multiple brands (including Rolex). There's also a Gassan airside in the EU-EU terminal which I think carries Rolex, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Finally, there's a Gassan in the Plaza (land side) but there I believe you have to pay VAT at the point of sale and go through the VAT refund process before you go air side.

I think it has always been about luck at Heathrow. It seems to be just down to timing and if you are lucky enough to be there when they get a delivery in because it's all snapped up straight away.

I was there 2 weeks ago and the sales rep told, when I asked, that he had just sold a black SS Daytona the day before. Not sure I believed him though.

If you can get to some smaller Italian towns you might find a treasure trove. Check the dealer locater on the rolex website as you're travelling. Even some very small Italian villages in non-touristy areas have ADs. They often find it pretty difficult to move stock and as such are generally the source for many of the grey dealers in USA and Asia. Get there at the right time and you never know what you might find... |
