While over 90% of the world’s Bourbon does come from Kentucky, it doesn’t need to come from there to be actually called bourbon

Righto! Just needs majority corn and aged in new barrels of charred oak. However, the vast majority of bourbon is distilled in KY so the misperception exists when people talk of true bourbon.

True. And, it can only be called bourbon if made in the United States.

Even if not a Bourbon drinker, a tour to many of the distilleries in KY is a fun time. They will teach you all the rules of Bourbon. I went to Buffalo Trace, Woodford and Wild Turkey a few years ago

I really like the JD Barrel Proof...probably my favorite JD offering.

It is true that bourbon can be made anywhere in the US. It is also true that any bourbon worth anything comes from KY. And while Jack Daniels is in Lynchburg TN, it’s a brand of Brown Forman headquartered in Louisville. Anyway, I highly encourage everyone in this thread to make your way to the KY Bourbon Festival in the fall. GTG maybe???

I know the difference between sour mash tennessee whiskey and bourbon, but you guys in the US treat both the same way or there's a difference?

Just a quick word on the Jack Daniels Bourbon debate, cause I've been on both sides of the argument based on the facts I had at the time. Jack is legally bourbon, and charcoal filtering does not negate that.

However, since it's inception Jack Daniels Distillery has sought to differentiate their whisky as Tennessee Whiskey and not as Bourbon, that's their choice, but technically JD is in fact Bourbon.

Joseph Magnus straight bourbon. Best bourbon I’ve had to date. A recipe “rekindled” from the prohibition era. I had Never heard of it , came across it in total wine. It’s finished in cognac and sherry casks. Won best special finish bourbon with another list of accolades. Absolutely phenomenal bourbon!

To the OP, check with you liquor store to see if they have some type of bourbon variety pack. It’s always neat to try new things and you’re not committed to a larger bottle of something that may or may not be liked.
That's a good option too. Thanks Chad!

Personally, I would rather get a sampler pack of things I've never had. Sometimes, you just have to break out of the routine.
