Should an AD be expected to flawlessly resize a bracelet?

I popped into the AD where I bought my 114300 to get it resized today; thought all was well but then later noticed the screw heads were a bit damaged (not as trashed as some I've seen on other threads) and that there's some chipping/scratching on the polished edge of each link, around the pin hole. If I ask for a couple of replacement links and pins, am I being reasonable? The brushed clasp and bracelet surface have picked up some scratches along the way, but the polished areas and pins have been flawless until now.

(I know... in theory I could buy the correct screwdriver and Loctite and resize it myself in future...but I know myself and my physical limitations well enough to know that I'd end up not being as neat as I'd like)

If they scratched it and damaged anything, they should fix it.

As a normal watch enthusiast I am capable of resizing a bracelet. Certainly you'd expect the same from ANY competent jeweler. I suspect someone other than a jeweler in that store did the resizing.

Yes most definitely! I would 100% expect an AD to complete the job without damaging anything. They are supposed to be the experts on the product that they sell. To get the job done correctly is why you are bringing it to them in the first place. Kinda like why you wouldn't take your Ferrari into Joe Schmo's Auto Repair shop.....You would want to go to the specialists with people who know what they're doing.

I don't think you're being unreasonable at all by asking for a couple of replacement links and pins. Did they agree to your request? I certainly hope so! I've also read some other horror stories about damage to watches. I would really be mad if this happened to me!

I'll keep you posted! I'm only just sending the mail now, so wouldn't expect to hear anything until sometime tomorrow at the earliest. Your analogy is bang on, I don't have a Ferrari but I do take my car to a brand specialist as I expect them to have all the specific tools and know-how! I've had a perfect resize from this AD in the past (straight after purchase), but by a different member of staff than today.

There’s a reason why I believe that only I should and will adjust my watches. They won’t care as much for your watch as you would.

i NEVER have ad's size my bracelets. use a hair dryer to heat the screws, the correct size screwdriver and go slow. easiest thing in the world and AD's seem to muck it up all the time

Don’t like hearing about this kind of experience. You buy a top of the line watch, you should expect an authorized dealer will properly service the item; does Rolex check on these other services their AD’s provide?

Yes, they should be trained. If they’re not comfortable they should hold it and have their watch guy do it when he gets in.

I would be annoyed ask them to make it right, I’m just glad my AD has a Rolex trained watchmaker who is competent

There is a correct way to do it with correct tools etc. I would expect the AD to be able to easily do this.

If I want a little scratch and or chewed screws I will do it myself which I have done by not having the right size screwdriver

I hope they take care of you. This is definitely not right! Just like in any business, there are people with more experience and others with less. The staff member that did your latest resize might be a newbie. Everybody needs to start somewhere (even brain surgeons) but there should be someone experienced watching over their shoulder in the beginning.

I am much better doing it myself than letting my AD do it. All of the results I have seen from my AD are either average or simply mediocre. Simple task to do home, only require a good set of screwdriver and some loctite 222 and you are set.

Lots of AD don’t even know the brands they are selling. You expect them to know how to resize a bracelet? No way.

Just resized my exp2 with my Panerai screwdriver. Not even a hairline scratch don’t know how ADs screw this up

You will only realize you needed it when it’s too late.
It’s cheap and easy, just add a drop.

My local AD has the in-house certified watchmaker adjust all bracelets. Not the sloppy handed sales staff.

I personally won't let anybody touch my watches I bought all the tools that it takes for my needs. Have since added hollow ground tips for my Bergeon 1.4 and 1.6 drivers.

Every AD SHOULD have a Rolex bracelet sizing kit equipped with all the right tools, including hollow ground screwdriver.

Yes it should be perfectly resized with zero damage to the screws. My DD40 and SkyD where resized perfectly. If there was any damage they would be replacing those gold screws for me free of charge.
