Frustrated from an AD/Rolex hater

Went to a non Rolex AD today that's sells different watch brands (no Rolexes). What caught my attention was that they had Zenith and was interested to see the models. When I told the seller that all Daytona lovers loved Zenith, he talked so bad about Rolex... How they didn't invent anything, that they just got their in house movement 5 years ago and so on. I was so frustrated when I left and I wanted to share my experience, as bad as it was.
BTW, this was the El Primero I saw.

A non-Rolex AD dumped on Rolex? Shocking.

Haters gonna hate. He probably used to work at a Rolex boutique and got fired, leaving him obviously disgruntled.

He's probably on a 20-year wait list for the new GMTs.

A salesperson talking bad about a competitors product.

Who would have ever thought?

Didn’t invent anything? Okay. I’ve had issues with almost every other brand I’ve tried. My largest issue I’ve had with Rolex is that my Sub now runs +2.5 sec/day after I’ve dropped it several times. My 1980s DJ that’s likey never been serviced runs better than some other brands I’ve owned.

That’s funny...

“Rolex isn’t all that good, they copy everything, we do great without them”...

said no watch retailer, ever.

One of my favorite watch stores here in NYC used to bash Rolex every time they had an opportunity to. Of course, they didn't sell Rolex. Sounds to me like Rolex might have turned the store down for an agreement or something.

Bashing Rolex is either ignorance, jealousy, or a combination of both, IMHO.

Zenith makes great watches that are close to unsaleable.

Wow....that's sad. Obviously the seller really has something against Rolex! In reality when you're working with the general public, those kinds of personal feelings need to be kept from any conversations imo. It will definitely lose some business for him as evident on how you felt when you left the establishment. I'm not very familiar with Zenith, but I have to say that is a very impressive looking watch!

By contrast, I once went into a Rolex Boutique (Milan), and the saleslady cooed over the Memovox I was wearing. "Che bell'orologgio!" she said "Jaeger LeCoultre! Sono bellissimi."

Another Rolex salesperson (London) as much as called my Seamaster (which had served me flawlessly for about ten years) a piece of crap which was in danger of falling to pieces on my wrist before I left the shop.

Crappy, dishonest or ignorant salespeople aren't brand specific. I've read "Rolex ADs treat you like..." so many times over the years but it tends to be more the the culture of particular ADs that is the problem.
Untrustworthy vendors are probably going to be untrustworthy aftercare providers so a slimebag sales pitch is the best heads-up you can ask for.

Is the all daytona lovers love Zenith comment due to some Daytona using Zenith movement?

Sounds like he wants to spend your money for you

What's funnier is that the AD thinks people are supposed to care about what he thinks

I've had a similar experience not long ago at the local omega boutique.

Disappointed since they wasted time trashing rolex instead of trying to promote their brand.
