I will say differently. Don’t do it. You will give an impression that you are already over paid therefore make it difficult to negotiate a high salary. Let your resume talk and keep it low key.

Why would you need to worry about your watch while interviewing for any type of ‘executive’ position in the first place? You’re not a fresh college grad with zero work experience, should an interviewer expect you to still be slumming it at this point?

I find these threads weird anyways. If you drive a car over $40k, should you also park 1/2 mike away in case anybody is watching the parking lot? It’s kind of silly.

Wear whatever that doesn't distract you nor the interviewer from the main task at hand... you landing that job!

For myself, I keep two "safe watches" when dealing with situations that has a lot at stake. One is my trusty 5513 where you get 3 possible reactions: 1) Indifferent, 2) "Hmm, poor bastard. Can't afford a new watch", or 3) "This guy knows his sh*t"

The other is the Nautilus, if I'm really feeling confident about the situation.

If your concerned what they will think of your watch, then dont wear it.

Not because theres anything wrong with wearing a Sub to an interview, but because it obviously bothers you enough that you may be thinking about that and not concentrating on the questions they are asking you.

I never wear a Rolex to an interview. Some people in the U.K. will judge people on wearing a Rolex, it's a shame but it's true. Never give anyone a reason to not offer you the job. Lots on here will disagree with me and that's fine, but it's my view. I always wear either my old Speedy or my Reverso.

Just wear it. I wear my subc all the time when I’m in the hospital and no one bothers me. All the general surgeons I know wear sea dwellers so I’m in good company lol.

Now seriously, if your interview is in business attire with a traditionalist decision-maker then I’d make sure the watch I wore wasn’t constantly catching dress shirt cuff. That calls for a slimmer watch. You don’t want to be fighting the urge to tug and pull at your cuff.

If it’s with a progressive leader and more casual attire then it makes little difference which Rolex you wear. But an Apple Watch might send a forward focused message.

If it’s a non-profit (e.g., charity-based or religious-based) that strives to meet the demand for low-cost community healthcare then I’d wear a G-Shock

How much you know about the person(s) who will be across the table is also helpful. If they’re trained in STAR system it may not matter. They’ll care more about your situational awareness, actions under stress and results - not your wristwear.

Wear it. My take on these situations is that anyone (interviewer or otherwise) who judges you based on your watch isn’t really looking at your watch...they are simply a judgemental person who would find anything to judge you by (your shoes, clothes, car, looks etc etc).

You should be more concerned over the contents of your resume and how you will answer questions. Blow them away with your interview and all the other stuff won’t matter.

No reason not to wear a Sub to an interview for a professional job - it’s a very under the radar watch. It’s not like you are thinking of wearing a PM piece dripping in diamonds after all!

For a job like this it’s not a problem at all. Wear as you’d like. I always advise folks if they’re interviewing for a job that comps under 6 figures a Rolex is not a great image to present in the interview.

Agree: either watch is understated. Wear what makes you confident. If both make you self conscious, don’t wear one. I wear all kinds of mine to work and I don’t hide that I am a WIS. Most could care less about them or my interests. Good luck in the interview.

It’s a watch. That’s all. I just don’t get why anyone would care.

For those they choose to go “under the radar” I wonder why you would own something that you would be ashamed for others to see. Are you self conscience about what you own? Do you drive a 2002 Honda with 350k miles on it or a 2017 BMW? What about your home? Are you ashamed of your success or are you living on credit?

Now, if you are sales, maybe I get it. But here we are talking about a physician. To get into medical school you are in the top .1% in intelligence and had to have a GPA in an undergraduate program well north of 3.75. We are talking about people who by definition are successful.

To be honest if I was interviewing for this type of position, you had 10 years of experience, and you show up wearing a Casio my first thought would be, “ this person doesn’t know how to manage his resources, or I wonder if he has had a judgement against him”. Apple Watch, no watch, high dollar watch would not solicit a negative thought. The exception might be an iced out watch or pulling up in a Ferrari.

I can’t speak for others but when it comes to physicians most people want the cream of the crop regardless of the position. Dr’s who are the best, guess what, they make serious money. I expect the best Dr.s to drive decent cars, live in good neighborhoods and if they are into watches to own a nice watch.
