70s-80s Pepsi with Plexiglass
Hi everyone, I got a question about the old Pepsi with plexiglass (not sure the ref no.) So my neighbor was fortunate enough to receive one from their relative. However, he's not really into watches and when he first got it he planned on selling it to a friend for about USD800, which I immediately called him to cancel the sale.
He then shared some of the features which frankly I am not familiar with. Here are some issues: 1) the bezel could not be rotated he said the bezel has been replaced but the previous owner wanted to lock down the bezel because he never really uses it (not a good enough reason to do such a foolish thing) 2) the box and papers were thrown away along with original links were missing during spring cleaning back in the 90s. 3) the crown lock could not be screwed in place and he may or may have not been in the rain and showered with it (potentially damaging the internal components) 4) reluctant to service it because the price quoted was beyond what he could afford He is actually willing to let it go at a reasonable price when he found out the true value, but with the issues above this would obviously drop the price significantly (right?) SO my question is, could the bezel be unlocked from its fixed position so it could be rotated again? and are there replacement parts sold for the missing links? Would need to find out the exact ref no. first though right? should I get it since he is willing to offload it? anyone know what's a fair price to give him because I wouldn't want to take advantage of his obliviousness but would still like to save as much money as I can for repairs. Thanks in advance for the replies |

Hi and welcome. First anything that needs repair *can* be repaired if you have the cash. One worrisome problem is moisture in the movement. That alone will be VERY expensive let alone all the other issues.
Would he allow you to take it to an AD (authorised dealer) to have checked out. If yes, I'd proceed and find out the true condition of the movement. From there you can establish a price. But, forget "reasonable". If he's just an acquaintance get it as cheap as you can. He was offered $800 so start at $1500 and see what happens. It's going to cost minimal $1500-2000K(I'm guessing) to restore so bear that in mind. After which it will be like new and worth a great deal more. I'm no expert and someone with more knowledge will chime in Can you post some pix? Good luck Mark Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk |

1) Early bezels were friction-lock and you press down on them to rotate. They do not click nor do they turn easily otherwise.
2) No biggie. More of them do not have boxes or papers than do 3) Water doesn't get in just because the crown isn't screwed down - it isn't that easy and you would see damage on the dial, most likely 4) The best service available would be much less than the value of the watch.
