If it were me, I would list the Daytona at a price that would make me happy to sell it... if it doesn’t sell at the price you want, then the decision is made for you... keep the Daytona and sell the sub. The key here is to list the Daytona at the price that makes you happy you sold it... whatever that price might be.

Wow, amazing luck bud. Congrats.

Simple answer is keep the one you would wear. Based on what you are describing, you might like the Sub more anyways. At that point sell the Daytona and recoup some money on the Sub. That would make it even more enjoyable knowing that you got the watch for a lot "cheaper."

Only keep the Daytona if you are going to wear it. Many may say keep the Daytona because it's better. Only "better" because it commands a higher value. If you are able to physically realise the value than at that point perhaps it is better.

^That would be my outward look...

From a personal view, I do like the actual Daytona more than the Sub regardless of the money. If I was offered a white dial, I would have no hesitation keeping and just enjoying the piece.

Which one do you want to keep? Which one do you prefer to have on your wrist? Sell the other one...

No wrong choice...which does not help your situation. My gut says to sell the Daytona due to the demand for the watch. As mentioned above, take a few days to think this over, you will be able to move either pretty quickly. Just curious, how many PM's have you received?

Keep DaytonaC.

Daytona's getting attention. The Daytona is exquisite, inaccessible and desirable. A Submarine is tool watch, nothing more.

Hi everyone! You may remember me from my first thread a couple months ago where most of you convinced me to buy my first Rolex, a new SubC Date. I have been loving it!

However, by complete luck/chance (literally) I just had the opportunity to purchase a new black dial Daytona for MSRP. I only had about ten seconds to decide if I wanted it, so of course I said yes. LOL

I love both watches, but I can really only afford/rationalize keeping one of the two.

The SubC is almost new - I have been babying it and it has only a few minor hairline marks on the bracelet that are only visible if you look very carefully. The Daytona is brand new and unworn in its plastic “coffin” still. But Both were “de-stickered” by the AD.

So here are my options:

-Sell the Daytona, presumably for a profit. How much? Not sure, but I assume at least a couple thousand dollars? Keep wearing my SubC and enjoy.

-Sell the lightly worn SubC, I’m guessing for a small loss? Maybe almost break even if I’m lucky? And then, stretch my budget further to start wearing and enjoying the Daytona (which I never thought I would ever own only because I saw online prices close to $19-20k and just said “nope!”) and enjoy the fact that I am apparently a pretty lucky first time Rolex owner!

If you read my previous thread you would know I had to overcome a significant amount of lost opportunity cost “fear of missing out” to convince myself to spend the dough on the Sub, but as soon as I got it I had no regrets.

Now I’m holding a new Daytona in my hands which cost me about 40% more than the sub, but which I bought on a rush of adrenaline simply because I knew it was unlikely I would have the opportunity to get one again at that price any time in the foreseeable future, and that if I had buyers remorse I could flip it without a loss. (Please don’t get mad at me for having this thought process. I did not plan on this happening, it was just a spur of the moment decision when the opportunity came up.)

Decisions, decisions. What should I do?

And please don’t just say “keep the one that sings to me”... they are both singing so loudly I feel like I’m going deaf!

Have a feeling you might have been one of the lucky winners in the AD I was in last night. If so, good for you.

Listen, I hate to say go on and flip the Daytona and make a profit, but you came across this magical opportunity and a 10 second decision to buy and you went for it. Now you have a decision to make and whichever way you go, no one should give you any hard feelings about flipping (and you shouldn't have any either.)

They both sing to you, so you might want to keep both. If not, sell the daytona and get the profits (whatever they might be), and put it towards either your sub-c or getting a used explorer or something.

Gods of opportunities smiled upon you. Make the most of it.

(In the event I was attending last night, they smiled upon me too with a black skydweller but I passed on it so it could go to someone who really wants to own it. If it were a Daytona, it would be on my wrist right now.)

i am another one in agreement with this. keep the Daytona. A sub you can get at MSRP again within 3-5 months from what I am hearing and seeing these days.

Having the sub as a daily wear would not be an option of taking i away, so the Daytona should be sold instead.

Curious... Why would an AD offer a customer a Daytona, if it was his first Rolex? After all of the stories, their is "pre-requisite" of $$$ before you can even touch a Daytona. Interesting...

Sounds like to me you only picked up the Daytona because of the profit aspect/split decision....and it was really all about the sub for you. Sell the Daytona to someone who wants one IMO.

The Daytona has less presence than the sub you have but fits smaller wrists very well...having both side by side should make the decision easy for you if you really are debating which to keep. Legibility is definitely in the court of the sub especially with the black dial Daytona.

The poor black Daytona that most complain about legibility will soon be updated by Rolex and extremely sought after. Sort of like the Explorer “short hands” fix that some believe will be the investment of our lifetime ;)

Advice needed. Keep SubC Date or Daytona?

I definitely wouldn’t say that was the only reason I picked up the Daytona. I genuinely want a Daytona. I had just crossed it off my list long ago when shopping/dreaming about my first Rolex because of the inflated online prices and lack of availability at ADs. If I could have any 2 Rolexes it would be a Sub and a Daytona. No question... I just didn’t plan to own 2 rolexes at this point in my life and I don’t think I can keep both right now unless I want to be divorced. 🤪

But, it is true that the street value of Daytonas made it a no brainer for me to buy in the heat of the moment. I won’t confirm or deny the exact source of this watch... but I will comment that I talked to/overheard a fair number of people who were present say that they would jump on the Daytona just to flip it. It was a surprisingly open admission which I even heard a couple of people say loud enough for the AD to hear. (Why would you do that? How good is your relationship with the AD going to be if you stand in their store and announce your intention to flip? But I digress...) My point is simply that I didn’t feel all that bad buying it when it seemed like half the people around me would flip it anyway.

I continue to appreciate the posts. I especially really like the advice that I should post it for sale for an amount that I would be happy letting it go for, and if it doesn’t sell for that amount then I should keep it. Great advice and food for thought.

If it were me, I'd weigh in my relationship with the AD. Not sure if that's a factor for you, but when my AD gets me hard references to come by, I typically like to keep them assuming I don't completely fall out of love. Wouldn't be worth a relationship in my opinion.

Although this was not a situation where the AD was hooking me up specifically, that is still a fair point.

Honestly in my short time dealing with this AD I can say they seem genuinely solid, especially compared to other AD horror stories I’ve read about here!

Unless my fortunes change substantially I will never be a “big” Rolex buying client for any AD. But they can at least be confident that they will be the first place I go when shopping for jewelry for my wife... which I may need to do very soon if I try to keep both watches!

Prefer the Sub anyways and with the demand for the Daytona and market price, you can make an easy profit.

I wonder if those saying this Daytona is essentially illegible have even worn one? Ridiculous. No, it is not as legible as a Sub, but a Sub is not as legible as a Polar, etc.

My advice is to take your time with your decision and keep the “keeper.”

Odds are you’ll never see another Daytona at MSRP and it’s really not to difficult to obtain a sub. At some point you’ll be able to walk in anywhere like before and get one. I have both white and black Ceramic Daytonas and love them equally plus a few subs, if the house was on fire I’d save the Daytona’s, then my family and then the subs :)

If it was a white Daytona C I would say keep it (personal preference), but in this case i'd turn the Daytona over and roll the profit into the cost of the sub!!!

I’d wear the Daytona for a few days to see how you like it and if you enjoy the fit more than the Sub. For what it’s worth I think the time is really difficult to read on the black Daytona but it’s a nice watch. If after a few days you like the Daytona more, move the Sub along.

Buying a DaytonaC at MSRP is like winning the lottery.
I would keep both, but if I have to sell one, it will be the SubC.

Buying another DaytonaC at MSRP will be like next to impossible.

You have the Daytona, the most iconic sports chronograph in the world. You got it without a premium. So you have to asked yourself this question, do I feel lucky.

Subs are common, plus there's possiblity that it may get the new 70 hr movement. Keep the Daytona.

The 4130 is a nicer movement. I would only consider a sub again if they update the movement and thin the lugs out.

If you can't really decide. Post both up for a premium that you'd be happy with. See which one sells first, let the cards fall where they may.
