6542 Bakelite GMT sighting in Toronto

My first time seeing a GMT Bakelite. A gentleman that I know has it for sale in his shop. He let me try it on and allowed me to take pics of it, and is okay with me sharing the pics. Very cool piece of history...

Looks like a nice survivor ...

Quick pics but looks to have a nice case, a great dial and ooh that bakelite insert !

I see it's lost its original handset but that is the easiest of flaws to fix on a 6542.

Thanks for showing donsidhu

Thanks Paul. Yes, good eye you have. I thought the hands were replaced but I wasn’t sure.

HarryLime, I asked him and he said he wasn’t sure what they go for today, and to disregard the price sticker on the case back as it was last years price. The sticker showed $69,000 (Canadian dollars).

I love the Bakelite bezels but would be too afraid to wear one on a regular basis. I wonder if there is a way to strengthen/protect them without ruining the value/aesthetics.

Here in Milan a shop has another one in full original conditions (on a leather strap, though) and it's priced at 70k EUR.

Nice GMT, I think that is a reasonable price in todays inflated world.
