Icon5 Buy WG BLRO Black dial?

My AD happens to have one black dial white gold BLRO GMT II. It is pricier than I like, and there is sales tax on top.

Do you think it will appreciate enough in the near term (1-5 yrs) to make it worth buying new with tax?

I am thinking that the SS BLRO will be unobtainable for a long time (am not a VVIP at my AD, plus I don't love the jubilee on the GMT). And Rolex is phasing out the WG black dial in favor of the handsome, but less limited, blue dial. The weird thing is, given that I have had the BLNR for a while, and my daily wear is a SubC, any BLRO is likely to be a safe queen - hence my question about investment potential.

Any thoughts on this matter are most welcome.

I would not buy it as an investment piece.

If you want to buy it to wear it then go for it, it’s a great reference!

I would only buy it if the deal was outstanding, other than that wait for the new ones. Don’t think there will be much of a line because it is precious metal and very expensive for most.

I would not buy it as an investment unless you plan to hold for 50 years and also don’t mind underperforming the s&p by a large margin.

What do you mean by “less limited?” Isn’t every gmt so far pretty much all black dial?

He is presuming the blue dial 116719 will have a longer run than the black dial. Who knows.

Don’t buy a WG anything at full retail price. This watch is gorgeous but you can usually get a 20 to 25% discount

Only buy watches you love, not as investments. If they turn out to be good investments, that’s a bonus.

I ended up waiting for wg gmt pepsi with blue dial. I think that they are both amazing, unique watches. But once the pepsi came with jubilee+black dial (there will be black dials everywhere), I feel that the blue dial is more unique IMO.
Investment potential? Who knows.
Wg with black dial is now discontinued. That’s special.
I think that blue dial will be short run, because it still has the old movement inside. The dial in gmt has never been blue earlier. That’s special.
Discounts: I have understood that they are limiting these discounts that people are so used to in certain models, because Rolex is limiting production. I don’t know what is true, but anyway...
If I could have the possibility to get a new discontinued wg pepsi with black dial, and I would love it, I would buy it.

Thank you everyone! I appreciate your money-saving advice.

My summary from your advice is that investment potential for this piece is low. And that this and other gold pieces should be bought at discount. Given that I am not in love with it and probably won't wear it much, I will hold off for now and keep the budget for future purchases.

I’d buy it only if you like it and plan on wearing it.

I'd get the blue dial version if going for white gold personally. Sets it apart better from the SS versions

i think considering the used market on the 116719 has appreciated 4-5g since february, and with the first new SS BLRO listing for close to 22g, there will be a continued rise in wg prices, especially its limited nature...only wish i bought in february, but never thought rolex would introduce a ss BLRO

I don't buy my watches to be safe queens or for their investment potential...so I'm not going to be of much help here.

Now, if you were asking if the BLRO was a great watch and do I absolutely love mine to death...then we might be able to talk.
