One more question: I heard many people saying that the Rolex steel is easier to scratch. Rolex owners: do you find that to be the case?
Congrats on your watch. I don't think in the real world that Rolex is any easier to scratch than any other alloy of stainless. Other alloys have different properties. 904L is better for corrosion resistance and can be highly polished. It will scratch just like 316. Just be careful with it. Mind yourself then you go through door ways. When you use it at work the bracelet and clasp will get scratched. The bezel can show scratches easily, but just like a new car gets scratches and door dings, the watch will get wear marks. But eventually it will get worn in in certain areas and won't get worse unless you drop it or something. No watch is drop proof or scratch proof. Well there was this tungsten carbide watch.... but I digress....

Yes, I did.
MSRP in Canada 7500 CAD + 13% Taxes = 8475 CAD ≅ 6500 USD. I heard the same thing in all the ADs I visited: "Rolex doesn't let us give discounts on the professional line". That's just the way it is nowadays I guess.
BTW, all the ADs had readily available in SS only Air King and Oyster Perpetual 39 (including the new 39 white and black dials). The Explorer was harder to find but possible. No Subs, Batman, Hulk, Daytona... I saw only one GMT Master in SS (black bezel and green GMT hand). Plenty of precious metal in all models. I know this is not new information, I just thought I'd share what I saw in the buying process.
Cheers

Great watch, I paid retail on mine as my AD wouldn't budge a couple years back. But it's the one watch I've kept while others have come and gone.

Congratulations Sir, and thank you for doing the right thing. I find steel sports Rolex to be a great value at MSRP. You are not buying some Omega or Breitling. You are getting a Rolex.

I wouldn't buy a watch as an investment. There are other things you can put your money into for a decent return in the medium to long term. If any consurer item I own, such as a watch gains value, then so be it. Nice bonus, but I buy my watches to enjoy owning them and to tell me the time. I would advise you to buy what you like and enjoy the hell out of wearing it.

As far as discounts go, I bought and Exp 2 Polar this January and got 5% off based on past relationship. I bought a Z-Blue from the same AD this week and couldn't get anything off. In the current climate, I consider that an OK result. We have this year bought a number of other things from this dealer and never failed to get a discount. It's a Rolex thing.
