As a kid, several times fighting other kids or my older brother. Usually just resulted in bloody noses and black eyes. Never got hit in the jaw hard enough to knock me out - but young kids usually can't hit hard enough for that. It was pretty common to fight, and I don't recall never being afraid of getting hit in the face.

Through high school I avoided fights - some pretty tough and ruthless guys. Fortunately I was friends with a few of them.

As an adult, three times in the nose from sucker punches/head-butt. All resulted in me having black eyes and my current slightly crooked nose. One of the times the guy ran, the other two times I got them back.

My life/kids are far too precious for me to even consider getting in a fight now. I'd happily swallow my pride to avoid a fight - stakes are too high.

Several years ago my buddy and I were horsing around after the bars, and he hit his head on the sidewalk - knocked out cold with blood pouring out his ear. Fortunately an ambulance was driving by just then. Cops interviewed me and ended up taking me to the hospital to wait on my buddy. He spent the next few weeks there and doesn't remember any of it. Scary as hell - a real eye opener.

One time, took a rather hard one to the face (upper right cheek) and definitely saw stars.

After that, figured if I was ever in a similar situation again, someone else could throw the second punch.

Was a pro boxer so yes.

Face shots hurt for a second then pass unless it’s your nose. Sometimes you’ll see a blue flash. Next few days can be bad. Many times I had to eat soft foods because my jaw ached.

Punches to the.body are far worse. Those will snatch the life out of you.

The initial shock depends a lot on where you get hit, the nose hurts instantly and makes your eyes water. Getting hit in the mouth is messy but you can keep swinging, the eye is much the same but without the mess. Twenty four hours later you're just sore, except with the nose which when broken screws up your sleep for about a week.

I boxed for ten years and I used to drink, so I've taken more than my fair share of shots to the face.

I am confident that 90% of the reason I’ve not been in bar fights is my position to not swing first. Maybe 10% of the time the other guy didn’t swing first because of my size and frankly all my friends are the same size. College nights in buffalo were an absolute shit show. You think people drink heavily at bills games? The bars here close at 4 and are usually still packed. Anyways those days are over.

Size actually does matter.

Put another way, it certainly is a good deterrent. At 6’ 3” 225 pounds, I didn’t have many people trying me. It certainly didn’t hurt when out clubbing with a friend who was 6’ 7” and 260 pounds. I think his size actually had something to do with him being a bouncer at the bar I worked at as well.

Round these parts I think it might be the opposite.

I’m 6’1” and 170 wet through, so not physically imposing. Previously documented episode aside, not been in any physical scrapes. But for a few years I shaved my head, and people used to try to start on me on nights out all the time. Before and since, with a white collar haircut, never had any unwanted attention at all.

It seems like the fighting drunks of London like a (n apparent) challenge.

All you guys saying you're over 6'0 and 220 lbs and guys don't want to fight you are lucky... I'm 6'2, 215 lbs and my best buddy is 6'5, 235 lbs. Back in college, we got into fights quite a bit around town, and no, we weren't the ones picking or starting them. I went to class several times with split lips and black eyes, not to mention bruised ribs and stomach. The pain is always felt afterward, not when the adrenaline is pumping through you and you're trying to stay alive.

I grew up in Oregon, where it is "frowned upon" to fight at a young age (thanks, hippies...), so I mostly learned to hold my own when I joined ROTC in college and we had combatives training; then a group of us would go "train", which was mostly beating the living p**s out of each other. But we got pretty good at taking hits and defending ourselves.

Since college, I haven't been in an actual fight, but in combatives (hand-to-hand fighting) I've been roughed up and thrown around. I'm definitely no bad**s, and have chosen to walk away from a few in the last couple of years. Too many guys with knives or other weapons, and I've got a wife and kid to think about. Like another guy said, I choose to exercise my 2nd amendment right instead. Here's to hoping I never have to.

Well, Segal was good. And usually won. More often than not, I got my ass kicked.

In terms of aiming for the head, I don’t think I ever threw a punch. I got hit, but it was all about wrapping someone up and getting them out of the bar.

I’d seen a lot of big brawls, but all I ever did there was try and pull people off each other. Thankfully.

Luckily, I have landed more punches than I have taken. Of the ones taken, they have all been in the jaw, ear, or forehead. I have luckily avoided the dreaded nose shot. I jaw will be sore the next day, but honestly the ear shots hurt the most after initial contact.

FYI - Beware of the headbutt. When you are too close to someone for them to hit, watch the headbutt....

I can say it hurts way more the next day. One usually gets punched in the face when they're piss drunk or maxed out on adrenaline. In my case, the adrenaline was pumping, didn't feel anything on my face or fists. Swelled overnight, developed a bruise that covered 35% of my face, and was tender as hell. Tenderness and swelling quickly subsided however the bruise remained for slightly over a week

Personally I am not looking for a fight and don't take a "it's just guys being guys" perspective. If another man punches me in the face, I will make best efforts to press charges for assault.

I have taken a few good hits to the face and in the heat of the moment with the adrenaline involved I never really felt them that much unless I got a solid hit to the nose. I once had a guy grab my hair and pull me down and full on kick me in the nose. That got my attention pretty quickly.

Heads/faces are pretty solid so usually my hands would take the brunt of the damage in the fight. Bare knuckles don't hold up too well with a big punch to a hard noggin.

Luckily I outgrew the silliness before things got too out of hand.

Ive been in plenty of situations as a younger man where I have not only been hit in the face, but also kicked, head butted and one time bottled. As other have said because of adrenaline you don’t feel to much until the next day. There was a situation in a club where I was in a tussle with one bloke and didn’t even realise his friend was hitting me until I was told later. I can assure you though if you get punched square in the ear then you know about it. You are completely disoriented, your balance and vision goes very wonky.

Well...… I guess that depends on how the heavy man looks further…. Although most fighters have skinny legs, sometimes u see those men with musuclar upper bodie and untrained legs, they look so weak… almost ill i would always look down first to find some weak spots. I am a powerlifter with gigantic legs and arms and a coolbox as a chest so not many people would challenge me, but i simpl can not fight. My girlfriend is a MMA fighter, and she is really good in that sports, she used to be a KMG teacher and practices BJJ,MMA and kickboxing almost annny day of the week, she only fights with professionals to… I can't fight as i am a dumb project, however if i have someone in my claws i am sure i can break somebody literally in 2 piece with my brute power, sometimes i also see this when i ''fight'' for fun with my girlfriend as i am simplym to strong for her(she practices powerlifting aswell) also i am afraid that if i hit somebody i will kill him directly because i hit simply to strong with my strength

It was Mike Tyson who said “everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the face”
It was when asked about his strategy to bum rush people at the beginning of a fight.

I have been in a lot of fights in my lifetime. Not in the last 20 years as at 42 years old, I figured out long ago that getting punched in the face hurts and it is easier to walk away or talk it out.

Sounds almost like a getting hit with a baseball or basketball in the head. But when adrenaline is pumping you don’t even feel it.

In college, during a flag football game, punched me good and I went down stunned, but got right up, kind of knew what was hapening kind of didn’t. Before I could do anything the other guys had grabbed the guy and was dragging him away, so no retaliation. I don’t remember it hurting much, but boy did I have a black eye. I have had a few physical fights in my life but thankfully, other then that once never got a square full punch in this pretty face of mine.
