OP 39 White or Explorer 1

I currently have a 16610 and want a Rolex with no date that is still versatile but can dress up a bit more than the sub. Really like the OP 39 white dial but tried on the Explorer for grins and liked it too. Do you think the Explorer is too similar to the sub to be a part of a 6 watch collection? Also any feedback on how it feels dressed up from Explorer 1 owners would be appreciated.

Sounds like the OP is the better option here. I wouldn’t consider the explorer a dress watch, and having a white dial would pair better with the sub.

I am biased towards the Explorer because I own one. One of the best Rolex watches out there. It’s classy, understated, and just perfect.

I honestly never gave it a chance and put one on today and I see why owners swear by them.

White dial for somethinf diff.

OP39 will not get you much returns when you choose to sell it, but will be a great watch to keep and pass down.

Whichever puts a smile on your face is probably the best answer...

However, for me it has to be the Explorer. It’s simple and definitely underrated. Very versatile watch that works causal, sport, or dress. It fits all categories. Dial 3, 6, 9 is unique mainly to this watch and also has the classic Rolex Mercedes hands with the beautiful clasp.

The OP is nice, but I think the only attractiveness that makes people currently consider it is the white dial (when comparing it to other Rolex options). There probably won’t be much of a debate if it was an OP in a different color.

Missing Lume

on the 3, 6, 9 markers on the Explorer would drive me nuts. Also the OP is more versatile.

I recently had the same debate with myself and I ended up deciding on the Explorer I. I just love the 3/6/9.

If you have a six watch collection along with a sub (I will assume black), I would go with white OP personally and to add something different to the mix. But, it is whatever you liker the best. The man makes the watch.

Explorer! Timeless, versatile, and goes with everything.
I have the lumed 3,6,9 2016 version and love it.
Some might say the short hand white gold 3,6,9 pre 2016 version will dress up better, but the WG numerals were not to my taste.
The white dial of the new OP is lovely, but I think it lacks the personality of the Explorer.
I bet if you get the Explorer you’d end up wearing it more than your Sub.
ultimately though, get the one that you like best.

I have an explorer, but I'm dying to try on the white OP. Theres really not a wrong choice here man, it's all goodness. Also if they have the 34mm try it on and let me know how it wears.

OP39 looks sharp, sounds like it would check all of your boxes!

+1 for the white dial OP. I like the rounded bezel better. Try to get an Easylink extension added

I’ve been debating between these two as well.

Definitely the white dial OP!

Honestly, I am only a fan of vintage explorers... the 1016 really grabs me, but the later iterations leave me cold

Maybe you should hold out for the polar 214270 - one day...

OP 39 White or Explorer 1

Exp 1 does nothing for me. That white dial OP however is a beauty and I’d go for it.

Agree with many that white pairs with your Sub better for versatility. However, the Explorer is so special, it is hard to pass up. Of the two, I’d take Explorer, but would not be against the OP - which looks great on your wrist as well.

I don’t think they are too similar at all, I’d go explorer 1 between the two.

This is an interesting conundrum I too am considering.

The only white dial I have in my collection is the fluted bezel DJ2, which is a beauty, but I am hankering after a no date reference to add to the collection.

I don’t want a sub, so I’ve narrowed it down to one of these two but like yourself, can’t decide.

OP too - Exp 1 is a neat watch, but that OP white is lovely.
