It’s a fantastic piece, especially for a first Rolex....but I may well be a little biased!

My first Rolex was the SS Submariner, a gift after surviving a year deployed in Baghdad. Once I had it, I was more aware when others had one also. Nearly every Submariner owner I've met has an interesting story about how, when and why they acquired their watches. I've met Submariner owners that were wearing watches from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and more. All of their stories were unique and sometimes inspiring. Now you have your story.

Going with the sub over the black GMT makes sense because now you can opt for the GMT with a colored bezel down the road and it will provide variety. For now though just enjoy wearing your new sub! Cheers.
