Which DD you had? Do you have a picture of DJ41 (if you have one now)?

Both are not inexpensive watches and I get a lot more comments on my DJ II with the Rhodium Diamond dial than my DD II but it may just be the diamonds. Unless money is not an object then I would be hard pressed to tie up the funds in a DD when the DJ does it. That from someone who has 14 watches and a lot of duplication in their collection. Find the two models and dial combinations you want and try them on together. You will know.

I agree. I have a DD36 and I never wear it. I own the same DJII. Wear it all the time. I get the most complements on it. The easy-link makes all the difference. I live in the south and if you don’t have a say to adjust your bracelet you have to take off your watch and put it in your pocket or wear it lose as I prefer a tighter fit.

My DJII rhodium diamond. Daily wearer. My 2 tone DJ41 diamond dial. Safe queen and vacation watch. And last my old DJ41 fluted black jubilee I traded towards my DJII rhodium.

When I bought my first Rolex (late 80's), I had very much wanted a yellow gold DD but just couldn't afford it compared to the TT DJ. Over time, I actually came to prefer the looks of the DJ. The Jubilee bracelet in TT just sparkles and the silver and gold play off each other well.

I'd still like a DD but won't spend the money for one even though I now can finally afford one. If I was looking at new versions of these watches, I'd still be hard pressed to pick the DD over a TT DJ.

The Day Date is and defines Rolex at their best. I do have a soft spot though for vintage Datejusts on certain dials since it's more unique.

DayDate or Datejust?

Day Date. The reason: it’s the pinnacle.
That being said, I love the Date Just and would probably purchase one in the future. I just received this watch below. The problem is I don’t think I can wear it. Too damn conspicuous.

I’m not a datejust guy, but I’d buy one before I bought another dd40. I’ve become too spoiled by easy links and glidelocks.

My dd40

A grail watch of mine is the RG DD40 w/ Olive dial... ahem, a DJ would not suffice.

I have owned multiple of both of these. I currently wear a day date. I feel what you’re saying: these watches are very similar in appearance. Both have amazing provenance and the DD was the last watch designed by Hans Wilsdorf himself.

I wouldn’t worry about the heritage. Both have great ones. I wouldn’t worry about the prestige. To the average person on the street they are both Rolexes. I wouldn’t worry about the durability. Despite supposedly being dress watches they are actually quite sporty and durable. I wouldn’t worry about flashiness. They are both flashy.

So what’s the difference besides the day of the week on the dial? Precious metal. My choice is either white gold or platinum. A little less flashy.

Thanks; Gorcious! Smaller, original size doesn’t look too small at all!
