I'd see if you can get a prescription for Medical Marijuana. I think it is much less addictive than opioids and has a similar if not greater effect in pain relief, you just won't care that you hurt.

Don’t need one in California, I can walk in to any pot shop and buy. It is not really my thing but I am considering it.

I hope you get better.

I'm very sorry my best friend, I hope you get better ASAP.

BTW. Can you still do the scan at your local Walmart?

Hmmm... this explains the new Tumi case. You should be able to tote quite the tune up in the new case.

Ask your physician before trying this route. Get some informed advice. Don’t waste your time on any ineffective strategies. You’ll just get frustrated, which never helps your recovery.

My CTE scan results.

Paul, I’ve have had it for 10 plus years. My attacks have all been mild. I’ve never needed prescription pain killers for it but have always been prescribed Flagyl and Cipro which are both antibiotics. The antibiotics suck. They make me feel lousy. My former primary always said stay away from seeds and nuts or foods that don’t digest well...corn and popcorn for example. I’ve always continued to eat soft seeds...cucumber, tomato and basically vegetable seeds. I know when I’m getting a flare up and act immediately. Get on the antibiotics ASAP. My new primary says avoiding seeds and nuts is bs and old wives tales and to eat what I want. My dad has had it for 40 years with one flare up. My old primary said unless you have more than 3 flare ups a year no surgery or anything. I’ve never had 3 flare ups in a year luckily. I still avoid seeds and nuts...I’m afraid to go rogue! Feel better soon! Soft bland foods for now!!

Very coincidental you posted this. My grandfather has been in the hospital for the past 4-5 days with an abscess and infection caused by diverticulitis. He (we) didn't even know he had diverticulitis. He has been released, but the doctor believes he will need a section of his colon removed. The doctor believes the abscess probably killed that one small section of the colon.

All that being said, it sounds like are you on much better shape than he is. I wish you luck, Paul!

This is much closer to my experiences and, I think, much closer to what most people experience. I keep a prescription for cipro and flagyl filled at all times and always take it with me when I travel. Covers both diverticulitis and food poisoning should either occur. Some years ago, a surgeon told me that the “no nuts, seeds, etc.” school of thought has been revised and not necessarily advised any longer, but a lot of us older sufferers still adhere to it anyway. I’ve had to use the cipro/flagyl 4 times in the past 10 years. Most flare-ups resolve themselves within a day or two with only mild discomfort and without any antibiotics. You learn to recognize it immediately, though, and monitor it. What you’ve described sounds like a worst case scenario and you may never experience it again. It was good to get a CT scan to rule out abscess and/or perforation. Again, hope you feel better.

I have it and the flagyl makes me feel like the south end on a north bound cow. Worse than the diver. I usually just quit eating solid foods and go through gallons of chick fil a soup for a couple days. Cipro is scary because it makes tendons blow out.

Well said! That’s been my experience verbatim. The Flagyl is awful. It’s worse than the diver...makes my mouth taste aluminum.

Yes, the Flagyl is awful and Cipro comes with its own risks but to my mind, they are the lesser of two evils if the other evil is an infection. Worst thing about the Flagyl is no alcohol.
