If a watch could tell the time of your life? What would it tell?

Owning a watch, any watch is a privilege. It tells the time at any given point on the earths surface.

Or does it do more than that?

Does it represent a special point in our lives that extends beyond just telling the time?

I think a watch tells more than time, if tells the time of our lives. It's a link to one point in time....

For me, it's one day in 2002.

I bought my wife a TT DJ after she gave birth to our son. I had squirreled money away by doing side jobs that she never knew I did, a complete surprise. I bought my first Rolex a few years later after finally breaking away from "the man" and starting my own business. So I guess my (our) watches would say hard work eventually pays off.

The IWC on my wrist right now says “never bet the farm... again, but that one time was great”.

It will forever stand for the period between July 1st 2016 and May 25th 2018 - the hardest project of my professional life, one that brought me as near as could be to my financial limits and that will inform the future course of how I make my living for as long as I will.

Like someone else mentioned a time of my life, but I can tie it to a date.

I was getting more mature, becoming successful in my career and had the money to buy a nice watch.

What took it over the top was the birth of my son and wanting to hand something down to him in 20 years. I bought my first Omega the day before he was born just luck when it came in.

It then goes back to a time as I flipped a couple. I finally have my Sub and that should be the watch I hand down to him maybe haha. If the Daytona C ever goes down in price that could be the one he gets instead though.

I don't know if a watch tells the "time of your life" but my three Rolex's were purchased on specific occasions that marked something. The first was when I had moved into another income level and was a celebration of the fact I could buy it straight up. The second was on the occasion of my mid-century birthday, and the last was a treat on a Father's Day some years back. That's why it's not likely I'd ever sell any of them. If my kids don't want them *they* can sell them.

20 year anniversary this year. I have and have had other watches from Omega, IWC, and some microbrands. This one though is special and won’t be flipped. I chose a Rolex to commemorate the milestone and this won’t be the last one. Wife gave me a budget 3x what this watch cost and this is the one I picked. I wanted something classic and timeless.

I don't put much stock in purchasing a material luxury item to mark accomplishments or milestones in my life. My only daughter is getting married next weekend, which will be one of the proudest days of my life, but I'm not going to run out and buy a new Rolex.
I will say that I felt I had to reach a certain monetary comfort zone before even considering my first Rolex.
