I would and that's why I don't. I was telling my wife that my 16710 could sell in the $10k range to the right buyer (I have all the stuff that came with the watch. The thing is, I bought it in 2006, brand new, for $2600 from a jeweler in Ketchum, Idaho who had lost their dealership (for discounting?). The watch was at least a couple years old (unsold) but came with the full Rolex warranty (2 years back in '06). She looked at me and said, "You can sell it for almost 4 times what you paid and you're not?????!!!"

I already bought a BLNR from them. Sure they could be lying, but I can’t think of any possible reason why they would. It’s not like they thought I wanted another one.

I travel a good bit and SS is sporadic. They’re out there. I’ve seen hot models in showcases.

my AD said the situation in Australia is very similar to OP - the waiting list for stainless steel sport/professional Rolex models is 1-2 years+ and Daytona is 6+ years.
Even the SS Explorer II now has an (estimated) waiting list of 3 months.
I put a deposit on it 1 month ago. It seems to be a global phenomenon.

I dont know if AD stock is at an all time low, but there is plenty of sports model supply at grey market sites and on the secondary market.

Not necessarily. The grey dealers I saw were down by the head with SS Sports; one had both Daytona C references in the window but no prices though. It's the ADs that are empty.

Whatever it is, it's bizarre. I can't wait to check out my dealers back in the UK to see if they're having it as bad.

Either Rolex is choking supply or they're shipping everything out to the grey dealers to make a few bucks extra.

Certainly as far as sports models go, they're scare out here too.

What was also bizarre was the amount of slots in the display cases that had been blanked. They looked like they'd been robbed.

It makes me wonder how much longer before the Rolex boutiques start cutting back the hours of their staff or even letting some of them go.

Maybe the shortage is just caused by Rolex updating the 3135 and the 3186/3187 with the new movements.

Hi guys,

Indeed there had been limited quantity in AD's here in Taiwan as well; last year with a certain AD in Taipei (actually the biggest Rolex AD in Taipei), you can still line up and get 116610LV at MSRP and 116710BLNR at 5% off MSRP. People are paying skyrocketing prices for Rolex in the grey market: for example on average, Hulk goes for 328~373k NTD, BLNR for 338k NTD, 116500LN for 608k(black) and 645k(white).

What happens to AD's here in Taipei right now this year is that to buy a 116610LV(Hulk) and 116710BLNR(Batman), you still have to line up to put your name down and plus you have to buy another additional watch to the purchase, a Tudor/Rolex at the store's choice(these are not popular models you can choose from but back-stock inventory pieces that stores cannot get rid off).

I guess this market is good for me. I'm not a SS sport watch fan. I like the two tone DateJusts. Woot!

yes, in Hong Kong there is a plenty supply of SD43 at grey dealer. but is almost impossible to get one from an AD, unless you have good relationship with them.(spending more than 1M hkd on mostly PM models in the past year)

Which AD have you seen SS models available in Vancouver? I went to the Alberni Rolex a couple of months ago and they had no SS sport models. The sales guy was very friendly but told me that they won't sell SS models to anyone who hasn't bought a watch from them previously.

I'm in the market for a Subc Date and would like to try on an SD43 if I could. Have you seen those around?

So I’ve been following along with all the hype regarding a shortage of stainless steel Rolex professional models. I just happened to visit my local dealer London Jewelers on Long Island today to try on a platinum Daytona which they had in stock. I couldn’t believe what I saw when I took a look in the display case for stainless professional models. No Subs, no GMTs, no SDs, one Yachtmaster and one explorer II. This is a very large store that usually has a huge inventory. This is completely ridiculous and unbelievable. I feel bad for anyone looking for a stainless steel professional model at the present time.

From my informal survey in Vegas this weekend I did not see any stainless steel sports models. Even the boutique in Caesar’s Palace had nothing but empty holders where the sports models should have been.

Below is a summary of watches I typically see at ADs

Decent PM watch selection
Decent Ladies watch selection
Quite a few DJ and OP
Some Cellini
Few 2-Tone Sports
Very Very SS Sports (usually Milgauss, YM, Exp 2)

I wish Rolex would kill anything smaller than 36mm. I have seen many petite ladies rock 36mm and up...anything smaller seems unnecessary. Divert that production line to make more steel sports watches!

BTW the Cellini line is really nice, I am surprised that Rolex doesn't put up a more aggressive marketing campaign to go against the Calatrava

More bad AD news..I just left my AD today, the largest boutique in Michigan and they had 1 Expll black, that's it. I was told it's actually going to be worse through next year and they are not expecting any shipments. They now have a long list on all SS sports. They sold their last Polar and Z blue 2months ago, the last Sub was sold before Christmas. I don't want to beat a dead horse, we know how bad it's been but what got me was when she said they may have nothing for the showcase for the next year to come.

Not sure it can go deep into next year, but whether ADs will display the popular models again is another matter.

From what I have observed Big Cities with lots of Customers have almost no inventory of SS Sports. In a smaller town like where I live, if they have an AD they will have some stock. I am on the East Coast of Florida. In December calls to West Palm Beach, Tampa. Orlando area yielded no results for what I wanted. I have no idea what the status is now.My local AD had a nice selection of SS Sports selection after Christmas so I made a purchase.

What is hard to know is the difference between ‘is stock at an all time low’ or ‘has demand risen so much is the stock flying out the day it’s received’.

I get the impression that due to price increases in the preowned arena more people than ever are wanting to buy. I bet demand has trebled in the last 2 years, even quadrupled possibly.

I recently travelled from HK to BKK and back, and checked both Airport outlets and a couple of BKK ADs. The only SS sports pieces I saw displayed were a white Milgauss and black Exp II. The atmosphere in each place was gloomy at best.

The question that crosses my mind is, if demand has increased and stock is flying out as soon as it arrives, why do all the sales staff look so dejected?

I presume it is from the populars going straight to the lists and so there is no actual selling involved, other than the hard type in trying to persuade walk ins who want SS to buy a DJ instead.

Even at the airport boutiques?
