GMTIIc Replica -- spot the differences
This should be a good thread for spotting the newer fakes out in the market and helping TRFers spot them sooner before purchases.
The following is a video for a GMTIIc replica that I saw someone post on another forum. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA0F-QvMfRg Being a GMTIIc owner, I was very intrigued by how similar the replica was and at the same time I was scared. I got a knot in my stomach thinking about "How can you spot a fake nowadays when they are almost exact replicas?" So, I spent a good amount of time watching and replaying the video (in high quality mode) trying to spot the differences. Here's what I found:
The scary thing is that the flaws I've found are only more noticeable when you get to directly interact with the watch or through close examination in a video. This watch's flaws are almost unnoticeable with only photos. Can anyone else spot anything? |

It would not surprise me if some even more convincing counterfeit Rolexes exist.
Given the present cost for a Rolex, and the potential profit margin, I don't see why a large-scale counterfeiter couldn't/wouldn't spend $300-$500 making a convincing counterfeit. I will not buy either a Rolex or an Omega from anyone other than an AD, and I don't even trust the AD's. |

Wow, if thats a replica it looks pretty good , maybe they are showing a genuine Rolex as advertising to sell the replica's . The watch you purchase won't be that one .

That looks very good for a replica....i bought my GMT Master IIc second hand but before I settled the sale I took it to the RSC and paid AUD99 to get them to check the watch out including the movement. It was all sweet, for a piece of mind it was the best $99 i spent.

Everything looked legit until I heard that clicking noise when he was turning the bezel. In all seriousness, that replica is really scary! I mean unless you actually really investigated it, in public, this watch would seem like the genuine article. Ironically it kinda makes you think, why you would pay thousands of dollars for a watch, that has a perfect replica such as this one....... But, you can fool everyone else, but you can not fool yourself. And I couldn't live with wearing a timepiece I knew in my mind was fake.

I have a GMT IIc, and I see the difference easily.
Pretty impressive fake overall; if one wasn't intimately familiar with the model it would pass more than casual scrutiny. Even to someone very familiar with the brand it would look very convincing on someone's wrist. All of the sound problems could be bad audio quality. I wouldn't mind checking out one of those fakes in person to find out. |

Fake are nearly as good as the real thing now, my mate got one in USA for $500 and it is almost impossible to know the difference the weight, feel and finish are like the real thing this is not good as only makes it easier for people to get ripped off

The obvious thing is that 24 hr hand is under all of the hands where on original it is between hour and minute hands. Of course if you don't have the real one it's hard to tell but the second I looked at this video I could tell something is wrong with the hands, and then noticed that 24 hr hand is not in right position. It is very obvious
