Buying a DJ in Montreal?
Visiting Montreal in the next day or so (I'm in the US) and to my great surprise, the CAD is quite weak right now. This naturally makes me wonder if it would be possible to pick up a good deal on a TT DJ 36 and that's probably not a desirable model.
Any advice on which AD's to go to in Montreal? Edit: Looks like there is only 3 :( BIJOUTERIE ITALIENNE BIRKS CHATEAU D'IVOIRE Any experience with any of them? |

I was not impressed with the way I was treated at Chateau D'Ivoire but that's just my experience. At the time, it made me venture to a retailer in Ottawa, about 2 hours away, to buy my BLNR. The good thing for you is that Birks and Chateau D'Ivoire are in close proximity of each other downtown. Bijouterie Italienne is in the east end of the city. Sales tax is around 15% Not so good Good luck to you and let us know what happened.

Did Birks offer a good percentage off? When you say sales tax of 15% is that something on Bijouterie would charge or is that applicable to whatever store I purchase a watch at? |

Like I said, you might be able to get a a discount since it's a TT, so that could be your tax savings

Chateau D'Ivoire is my AD. They are okay, nice big shop right downtown. They sell a lot of mega-$ brands but also a lot of Rolex. As of today their current stock is a Milgauss, an Air King, and a "green Sub"...not sure Hulk or Kermit as the info is from my brother who was in there this am.
Pricing is based on the CAD website, so Milgauss is something like CAD $9100, AK is $7100, and not sure about Sub. Converted to USD even at bank "buy" rates is very good pricing. Have fun! |

Birks will not offer any discount. They are a chain so no deals.

I could only recommend an AD in Toronto...but based on where you are, the drive to Toronto sounds too far out of the way.

I'm not located in Montreal (in Vancouver), but definitely the Canadian dollar is weak right now making the MSRP price really attractive. I would say on a piece like that you can expect at least the tax savings (12%-13% depending on the province you are in).

I solely deal with Chateau. I have bought many pieces from them with a discount. I refuse to deal with the clowns in my hometown of Ottawa as they are the only show in town and they know it,. They use unfair business practice and are just not accomodating to earn my business. Go to Chateau, for what you are looking at, they had a decent stock a few weeks back and would deal on those.

I have walked around in Chateau. A very nice store and they were very cordial and attentive. I did not buy anything there, so I cannot comment on that aspect.

Chateau d’Ivoire. Good service and deals available. It is my AD of choice and where I purchased my 116710LN They are always happy to have me browse and try on watches even if I am not buying. Also, great part of town. It is only a 15 minute walk from Birks so easy to compare. Enjoy your visit, looks like rain and high humidity so dress comfy!

I know it may be a little late for your trip, but as a non-Canadian or resident, you may be able to claim back the sales tax, when you leave Canada: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca....aspx?lang=eng
