DD 40 v. 36 — Which looks better?

Stopped by my AD today and decided to try on DDs. The 40 is amazing, but it felt huge on my wrist. The 36 was much lighter and felt larger than a typical 36.

Which size looks better (ignore dial combo and other specs). Sorry the dial/gold combos are so different.

Personally I like the 36 but I'll wait for the new movement also I have a small wrist size

Better fit on your wrist. More comfortable to wear by a long mile.

And that dial is pretty damn gorgeous imo.

Man up! 40 is the way to go.. We need to stop this whole “my wrist is too small” campaign. Most girls can pull off 40mm and imo personal preference, height and body type are much more significant than your wrist size. My wrist is 5.5” and have zero issues with a 40. My AP44 fits great as well.

I'm a fan of the 36mm Day-Date. Unless someone's wrist is truly too large for it, I prefer it to the 40mm Day-Date.

As mentioned by other respondents, I also wish the 36mm watch was equipped with Caliber 3255.

I think it depends on if you want to go with a more classic style (36) or the more current trend of bigger, Bigger, BIGGER. Although the 40 isn't that big at all. It looks nice on your wrist although in my opinion, the 36 does look a bit better on your wrist.

I think it depends on what you like, what you'll be happier with in 10 or 20 years (will you be kicking yourself one way or the other?), and what the rest of your collection looks like.

Looks too big ... but honestly if it feels good to you that’s all that matters. To the OP, if the 40 doesn’t feel “right” then you need to take a step back , pause, and consider whether you are ok w taking a $25k+ risk that you will “grow into it”. Personally, my wrist is around 6.7 and I can pull off a 40 comfortably depending on the model - a SubC for example is pushing it while the BLNR is great. In an AD, a 40 DD fits good but don’t own one. A 42 exp2 doesn’t work for me.

Dig the new 40's. Always like DJ and DD styling over the years, but everytime I bought one, I did not care for the size on my wrist. Much prefer the modern larger sizes.

The 40 looks great on you. Looks like you have other 40mm watches in your collection.

In steel I agree. Love my SubC and DJ 41. But man, in yellow gold, it seems much larger.

I would second the opinion that I would really want the newer movement in the 40 however.

Height / size factors in as much as wrist diameter. I’m 6’4” with a 6.5” wrist and the 36 looks like a lady 29

DD40 hands down especially for your size there is no question

Being over 6 foot wearing a 36mm I think in real life and not blown up closeups of your wrist it will look quite ridiculous.

I’m 6.5 inch wrist. U want to get the dd40. Even on my wife it looks more modern. The dd36 sits high off the wrist for a smaller watch

DD36 is the way to go. When it comes to gold, I prefer the watch to be on the smaller side. Less in your Face.

I couldn’t be offended by another’s opinion but always like a discussion. I sold my 36 plat DD long ago becuase it just was too small for me but back when I bought it there was no such thing as a 40mm DD. I mean I absolutely love my SD43 and AP44 so my last worry is how my DD40 fits. Again, it’s all a personal preference. Some guys like skinny jeans that are up their ass and grab their ankles and hell, some even pull them off. To each their own. My only advice is to go try them all on and get what YOU like.

I will say to be careful with closeup wrist shots like that though. Not a good way too judge. Watch will always appear bigger in that type of pic.

Neither looks better than the other. They are just different. I wear a 40 and it’s a great size. 5 10 and 7 1/4. Inch wrist. I do agree that when you smack a big piece on gold on your wrist looks much larger than it would otherwise.

40 is not a trend or a fad. It’s a normal, and some may say even small size now.

If you are trying to not be showy or in someone’s face with a day date, especially in gold, don’t buy one of any size. It’s is a “statement” piece. Try a white gold 40 and see how it’s feels.
