You may get sub not because you have money, but because you want to show up that you have the money! 9k is a respectable, figure but accessible figure ( credit cards, personal loans, etc). Plus, you can always buy a second hand one.. Thus, it is really difficult to assume that the Rolex guy is comfy with money...

This is good advice Ryan.

Lie to you co-workers on your first day.

Just don't forget the 'story'.

in finance wear it. My broker wears a Rolex so for customer facing absolutely but otherwise i dont see how it matters one way or another. he must be decent at his job so that gives me some piece of mind. Probably would trust someone less with my money who was wearing a cheap watch or cheap suit or cheap shoes.

I'm glad to not be in the corporate/financial world, seem so complicated. It's so nice being simple folk, just do what I want not caring what others think.

No one will notice or care.

No one will notice or care.

If this were a job as an Analyst at a bulge bracket bank then of course wear it. Junior Financial Analyst at an advertising agency? No idea -- figure out the culture and go from there. Most people don't notice or care.

OFFICE. POLITICS.

You made an astute observation (VP wearing Apple watch).

Get to know the lay of the land before you make a splash.

Ok, I’ve read all of the various opinions.
Let me share an actual real world experience.
My nephew in-law took a job with a small money manager. He was supposedly going into this firm as a partner. He asked me if we could meet. I like him and he had been in the advisory business for several years before joining this firm so I agreed. He offered to come to my home or office but I insisted it would be easier if I came to him.
I was under impressed by their offices, but that’s ok. I asked nephew whose S series Mercedes was that that I parked next to. It belonged to his partner. Hmmm.
I meet the partner and he’s late 30’s, as is my nephew. Partner tells me he knows someone I know, a very successful individual. I ask how he knows him and partner says “I live across the street from him. Great guy!” This individual just built a $2 million dollar home and this young guy lives across the street??? Oh yeah, partner is also wearing a Rolex.
I decline to move $ to this firm. Less than a year later partnership blows up and I learn of many “irregularities”.
Lesson? First impressions are important. The impression these guys made on me was that they were more concerned with their livelihood than they were with my money.

exactly.

I wasn't aware there was another curb your enthusiasm either. The other one would say the same thing and i have been accused on more than one occasion of having Larry David as my alter ego. If thats the Larry David one i must have missed that episode somewhere.
