Serial Number

I'm new here. Have owned a GMT Master 1675 "Root Beer" since the early 80's.

I was looking in your reference section at the serial number information trying to get an idea of the date of manufacture. Is that number located on the movement? In my case what looks to be the serial number has the letter "D" at the beginning and I don't see any numbers starting that way.

The serial number is engraved on the case under the 6 O'Clock Bracelet End Link. So remove the bracelet from the 6 O'Clock side of the case and have a look.

The 1675 was introduced in 1959, and was produced until 1980. (Bob's Watches)

"D" Serial is 2005/2006.

Movements have their own unique serial numbers; do not confuse the two. Serial numbers on 5 digit models is on the case under the end-link.

The last time it was serviced I asked them to take photos and the photo of the 6pm side is totally out of focus.

Thanks for the answers. I need to take the bracelet off that side. What springbar tool would you suggest?

My serti sub 5 digit has the serial number on the inside ring. Mine is from 2008 some of the last M which is mine and V 5 digit subs have the engraved ring right before the sub c came in.

Even if you take the bracelet off checking the serial number with any internet chart it will only give a approx date when the case was stamped and not when it was made.

Completely useless answer to the OP’s question.

I'm just curious about it. It was my understanding when I got it that it was purchased new around 1972. Approximate is OK.
