Paul, how many antique clocks do you have stuffed in Tumi bags in your closets? Plus maybe a drone or two.....

Funny you should mention antique clocks.... A couple weeks ago I was in discussion with another collector that owned my grail, a 1927 Telechron that was given to the executives of General Electric in celebration of GE purchasing a partnership in Telechron. Well, that’s the rumor anyway. To continue with rumor, supposedly they liked it so much it was the catalyst for the free clock gifts given to purchasers of the GE refrigirator, from 1928 to 1931 (which I collect). The 27 has one plaque that is unique from all others and there were very few of them produced, again this is mostly rumor but the number is somewhere between 40 to 80 clocks. The scarcity is not a rumor of this particular model, even the official Bible of telechron clocks, describes this clock but does not have a picture. Long story even longer, I agreed to the price the collector was asking (it was a steal, he said he wanted it to go to someone that would appreciate it) and I got it today! I am going to overhaul it and can’t wait to display it fully refurbished!

Ahem...Step 1 - Admit you have no control over the ummm... obsession.

Now about that receipt - showing wear around the edges of the CFX wallet?

Paul I would like you personal opinion on this.
How do you feel the quality of Tumi products are after the acquisition from Samsonite?

Great question Dee, and I admit I was concerned when the acquisition was announced. I have seen a change since then, some good, some bad. The good things is there seems to be a broader lineup, different colors and materials. Tumi was a tad old-school years ago, Samsonite has initiated a kind of creative streak that I believe has enhanced the brand. BUT, I am concerned about some of the processes and possibly selection of certain materials. What I purchased today was a leather wallet. I had my old Tumi Leather wallet for several years, I want to say five or six, and it still looked brand new. About a year and a half ago I purchased the brand new-just released Carbon Fiber CFX wallet (of course, just had to have it right). Well all over the wallet now there are silver "streaks." The rep told me that was the actual color of the material and the black "coating" was wearing off. Now, sitting under my fat ass for 18 months would and should cause a lot of issues, but this is something I never experienced with Tumi before; signs of wear and tear after a relatively short duration of normal use. I let the rep today know of my disappointment and he gave me a discount on the new wallet and said he was sending my CFX back to corporate. My sales guy, (whom I trust) told me he had a client that just brought back the CFX carry on for the exact same reason. So, at least with the CFX line I am a bit concerned. I was all set to purchase the new CFX briefcase, but if that is the result after 18 months of normal use, I don't believe I will.

You must be a marked man in Tumi stores nationwide. I have a duffel that has served me well the past few years. Inconspicuous yet well made.

I am seriously thinking about starting a thread where anyone who travels takes a pointing wrist shot at a Tumi story. Don't know what to title it, though. "The Official Where's Paul Thread." "The Official Is Paul Here? Thread." Ok, I'm doing it as soon as a title is picked.

So this might be a dumb question, Tumi bag for work worth it? I went in the store today and checked them out. I’m sure i will likely buy it. It’s a ballistic nylon messenger type with some leather around the front flap. do they hold up well?
