I spent the weekend looking at the OP and the JLC Master Control Sector dial (another one in the running) and went over it over and over in my head. I decided neither one of those would do. I walked into the AD still thinking I may back out but when I saw the snowflake in person again I was convinced this is the one. I spent the entire afternoon looking at the dial, the indexes and the hands. They are simply gorgeous, the workmanship and the attention to detail is unparalleled even for watches at double the price point. I don’t own a Royal Oak but I have had handled one on several occasions and may I be so bold to say the Snowflake dial is up there with it. The movement finish is adaquate but nothing to write home about but then again I don’t have a $30,000 budget so I can’t complain. One of the deciding factor was the spring drive, it’s an interesting technology and seems to have very good reviews but that’ll have to proofed out over a period of wearing and ownership. Overall the quality in terms of finishing and attention to details blows Rolex out of the water. The best part of it is it’s like a secret handshake; it’s a $200 Seiko to 99.9% of the people out there, only watchheads like me knows what a gem it is. Without further ado the obligatory wrist shot. |

Agree 100% with what you said. Grand Seiko finishing is top class. Congrats! Wear it in best of wealth.

The brand is better known here, but not huge. I think GS only went global in 2010, and GS opened a prominent boutique here around that time, which closed after a couple of years as I recall. There are plenty of ADs here, though, but it will take time. Even though HK consumers tend to love all things Japanese, Rolex has been here since the 1930s and is part of the local DNA.

Conspicuous consumption is pretty big in HK from my experience. GS is pretty much the opposite of that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I love that watch. I tried one on a week ago in the Paris boutique. It doesn't really work for my wrists (and, honestly, my watch size preferences), but I wish it did.
I've got my eye on an SBGA283 though. |

congrats. Great pick! you chose wisely! I was reading somewhere that someone took their GS into the patek salon in Geneva (I think) and observing under a loupe they were blown away by the finishing. I really hope GS continues to catch on more and more. It's a fantastic watch and deserves the accolade.
Also, I own a royal oak and the sbgh267. The seiko is by far my most impressive dial detailing wise. the royal oak is 2nd......if we're talking straight color vibrancy than that title belongs to the hulk. |
