The SSC Tuatara Has Finally Appeared and My God It Has 1,750 Horsepower
SSC Tuatara — The American Hypercar — Limited to Just 100 Cars.
The company claims production is “ready to begin,” and now power is rated at a max of 1,750 HP on E85—1,350 HP on 91 octane gas. Those figures come from a 5.9-liter flat-plane crank twin-turbo V8 engine “assembled in collaboration with Nelson Racing Engines,” the company claims in a news release. https://jalopnik-com.cdn.ampproject....1828604942/amp

I wouldn’t want a hyper car made by some start up. Gimme a Ferrari, Porsche, Mac etc
Prob why I have AP, PP and Rolex not a bunch of independents

SSC has been around but I agree.
NRE is a beast of a builder though. |

It's a beautiful car. Would definitely get myself into trouble with something like that. Dukes of Hazzard got nothing on me!

That’s a great looking car. Would be interesting how the stats measure up vs the competition.

A detail I noticed: this car has holes in the body above the wheels, just like the Chaparral 2E of the mid sixties had on the front.
This feature is very rarely seen. Just like for the chaparral 2E it is certainly made for 2 reasons: - to diminish the aerodynamic depression ( the curves in the wheels areas otherwise behave like an airplane wing, this was the main purpose for the Chaparral 2E) and; - to help cool down the brakes by eliminating the hot air. I personally feel that those hyper cars are "too much". Better have fun on the track with lighter sports cars rather than have those hyper cars that cannot be exploited on the road. And on a track, because of the lengths of the straight lines, it is difficult to go beyond 140 miles per hours. Where is the market? some Emirates? Now, don't get me wrong: I'm not against sports cars, in the contrary (had 2 Porsche, including a rare 944 Turbo S, 3 Lotus including a turbo model. I just feel that those hyper cars can hardly be exploited. |

GREAT post Chope Man ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Hyper cars on speed limited / lackluster roadways such as those in USA is a bit of a waste. Yeah, probably sell most to Oil-Rich Guys and those four guys who just buy all these types of cars. Good for them, truly hope they exploit everything they can from the design. No matter the price, it really is great we are seeing these type of cars in the marketplace because the opposite situation (legislation banning them, another major stock crash, etc) would be.... :( If in USA, UK, Singapore, etc... these are for track, but then you have to ask yourself.... For muuuuuch less money you could buy a Formula car that can do 4G+ in the twisties and totally pown this Tintop Hypercar on a road course. Played with this in SCCA for a few years (earned Driver's Champ), not bad for $40k including a truly massive amount of extra bits such as aero setups, three more sets of OZ lightweight rims, extra gears, suspension bits, triple adjustable Penske shocks on ICP hydraulic perches, etc. Just an old 1999 weighting 1190 lbs wet with driver Formula 2000 car with the older spec carb'ed Kent 2L engine. Going Formula Atlantic is like only $100k all-in and faster still and can do a bit more Gs. Totally admire these hypercars and am sure there's some serious money to be had in that sector, as new hypercars are popping up every other month it seems. The Bugatti, while being fairly 'pedestrian' really, is also lacking reliability, overpriced to repair basic bits, and resale is horrible. At the recent lux car auction a few Bugatti cars failed to even make the basic reserve price. Me? Would prefer a Pagani as for the $$$$ it seems about right and they seem to be a great company that stands behind their products. Truly exceptional manufacturing and style. Also fear we are seeing a 'market top' folks. Hold on tight, it's gonna get fun from here :) JMHO YMMV

Steven, you got a fun car, to say the least! Sure you must have had a lot of pleasure with it.
And with "only" a 2l Ford Kent, a derivative of the 1600 crossflow I have in my 1968 Lotus seven by the way. But as you perfectly know and as Antony Colin Bruce Chapman used to say : "Light is right". Tried a formula myself in a piloting school and had a great time. Even found after that, picking back my PTP 165 Lotus Elise S1 prepared for the track, that the steering wheel of the Elise was not "direct" and that the brakes were poor... |

Chope Man you have fun cars too!
To add lightness... and yes yes yes "Light is right". Your PTP 165 Lotus Elise S1 prepared for the track Frankly, the most fun i saw at track was Rand in his 1.6L SCCA spec Formula Ford just driving the pants off the car, letting the rear swing wide through the twisties in such a controlled and elegant way. Surely not the fastest way around a track perhaps, maybe it was, who cares as it looked like epic fun car control drivegasm. Rand owned the F2000 series back then. Good times.

How do you get 1750 HP from the engine to the pavement? It's an amazing engine, but why?

All great for the exposure but it took 7 years to build one example that isn’t really done yet. Some good eyes took extra pics inside and the whole drivetrain isn’t sorted yet methinks.
Forgetting that it might take another 7 years to produce any deliverable cars - I’d suggest the prospective buyers order 2 so they have a good supply of spares. It’s the mfr. that might not survive long enough to make even 100, much less the spares needed to maintain a supercar. I admire their dream to produce a domestic supercar - but they are so under capitalized that it’s unclear how they can pull it off even at a projected 7 figure price. Excellent point, am hearing there even having problems sourcing Tesla Model S parts to repair out of warranty cars. Good luck finding high-quality independent service too.

That is a very alluring car. Too bad you really can't use it anywhere around here.
Back in the day all the F1 drivers had Fiat Arbarths (sp) because they said you could drive as hard as you were able on the street and still not break the law. They said it was good practice for racing. Something to be said for that. |

I suppose if you're a billionaire and can have this delivered to the track it's a great fit.
