Rolex 126600 with cyclops removed.

Way back since last July when I got my 126600 I have wondered what it would look like with no cyclops.

Today whilst browsing through the internet I came across this image.

I have seen a couple of photoshopped images of what it could look like.

But the actual removed cyclops it makes the date look too far it. This could be due to the larger dial and lack of the huge rehaut like on the DSSD and possibly why they made the decision to add a cyclops.

On this photo of mine it does appear that the date aperture is well to the left of the cyclops.

Please ignore the dust!

Weird, I don’t know if I’m just used to looking at my SD43 with the cyclops, but despite always saying I’d prefer no cyclops, I actually think it looks kind of funny without it.

Rolex = cyclops; it’s a defining characteristic of the brand.

I like the cyclops. The only thing I didn't like about my SD4K was that I couldn't read the date easily.

I’ve seen a few photos of 40mm ceramic models with the cyclops removed and what’s left behind is a clear spot where the AR coating still remained. Re the SD43, it looks better with the cyclops imo.

Agreed but the SeaDweller was iconic because it lacked the cyclops.

I actually like the cyclops on my SD43 - plus, anymore I might as not have a date wheel if it didn't (because I couldn't read it...) :)

I did that with my sub a number of years back. The AD suggested it, but ran into problems because the UV coating left 'spot' where the Cyclops was. Had to have a new crystal installed. While the AD delivered, he said it would be his last, due to the UV coating.

100% agree. When I think of Rolex, I think of Sub with cyclops. The SD43 is just a bigger looking sub to me...which I like.

The first photo looks legit. The photoshop however shows a date window further to the right than it is in reality.

The movement and dial were not designed to be without a cyclops which is the reason why the date window is so far off the chapter ring. Removing the cyclops makes it look worse IMHO. Had it been designed without a cyclops from the onset, with a date window further to the right and an enlarged movement and date disc, then perhaps it would have looked nice. That's not going to happen. Every Rolex watch with date has a cyclops except the previous Sea-Dwellers and the previous and current Deepsea.

So basically the Cyclops is here to stay. I got used to it and I'll never mod my SD43 nor YM because they look worse judging from pictures of those who did it.

I wouldn’t have bought mine without the cyclops. It’s one of the element that won me over on the SeaDweller.

Sd43 with cyclops > Sd43 no cyclops
I understand the predecessors did not have the cyclops and why the purists might not like the change, but it’s an improvement imo.

I imagine there was significant debate at Rolex deciding on the cyclops. This shows why they went the way they did. It hides the date window's position and make it look better proportioned. This coming from someone who dislikes but tolerates the cyclops.

No cyclops on Sea-Dwellers of any kind. All Sea-Dwellers were born without cyclops and that should be it's one of the distinguishes from other divers.

It looks off because despite adding 3mm in size they did not change the dial or date window size. They Cyclops adds the needed width.
