Hard to say.

I was really impressed by the white gold Day Date with president band, hidden clasp, of a very good friend of my father. It was in the mid70's.

At the end of the seventies, I hardly wanted a Submariner with date (1680). And got a more reasonable (less pricey) 5513 as a splendid present of my parents for my eighteen's birthday, in 1977.

So, which one of the 2?

Or any advertising at that time of a Rolex sport watch? For sure at a certain time, it had to be a Rolex that I would wear later as an adult. I was sure of that.

I saw this watch on Tom Selleck's wrist in 1984 and coveted it ever since. I was not in a position to buy it for quite a while, and watches were not a priority back then. I liked them, sure. But not enough to pay the money for the finer ones.

When I did finally venture into nicer watches it was with an Omega Seamaster. That was the ice breaker, the first step in a slow (and sometimes irrational) progression.

I'm not a collector. I get inspired by a watch, hem and haw over it for a while, and finally buy it. But I buy only to wear. That's why my watch rotation is only two watches. Omega Speedmaster Co-Axial and the Rolex GMT Master II BLRO.

Probably a slightly different story

My grandad was a clockmaker. I grew up with that influence.

I saw the movie Apollo 13 as a kid and fell in love with the speedmaster. Towards my late teens I could afford a citizen nighthawk which I thought had the same rounded bracelet look as a 1970s speedy on a 1450 bracelet.

Obviously I couldn’t afford a speedy at the time but now I’m very pleased to own a couple of CK speedys and of course a heselite moonwatch.

For me it was a black submariner a friend had on. I had no idea rolex made sport models, I always associated rolex with the look of the date just and president (I was early 20's at the time so to me those were "old man" watches) One look at his submariner and I was hooked, I had to have one. I ended up getting a sub "LV" shortly thereafter and the rest is history! I must be getting old too because I have an "old man" watch in my collection too and love it!

I had two phases of my addiction.
Early on, it was an Elgin pocket watch from 1910 owned by my Grandfather which had an interesting story. It is a family heirloom.

In the years between the early times and this modern era, it was a digital Seiko Sports 100.

I remember the exact moment my watch love began. It was like the day when girls went from icky to interesting. (thank you Tiffani Amber Thiessen)

In High School, Fossil Watches were all the rage and I really liked them. My friends had some and I thought they were nice from the ticking seconds, cool dials, and the steel bracelets. I never thought of buying my own because although cool, everyone had them and I never found a variant I really liked.

While with some friends at the local mall I passed by a Macy’s display case. I saw the Fossil display, moved to the G Shock, and then I saw it…I saw the first watch that sang to me. A Bulova Millenia Motion Quartz. I asked to see it and was in love. It had red sub dial hands, a chronograph, and a bracelet. I turned it over and saw a rotor and the display back with the “movement” (although it wasn’t much to see, and it was a mechanical quartz…) and knew I had to have it. I looked at the price and was dismayed. Macy’s was asking $400, which to 16 year old me was the equivalent of buying a car. But I had a goal – get the Bulova. I asked for extra shifts at Blockbuster (RIP) and took odd jobs to save enough money for it. Then about four months later I was able to save $420 (I knew I had to save for tax) and walked in and spent almost everything on that watch. I was elated. I was on cloud nine as I walked out of Macy’s…clouds parted, angels sung, unicorns leaped, rainbows shot from the mountains, and my face hurt from smiling for days straight. That is the root cause for all the TRF reading, watch buying, and love I have for horology.

I still own my first “luxury” watch and although the bracelet broke, it is a little slow, and they no longer make the battery needed for it, it still brings a smile when I see it.

It was Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in Goldeneye. Fell in love with his Omega Seamaster and that started it all. I wish I still had it. I wore it daily for 10 years.

Same exact watch for me. Buddy who worked at a pawn shop had a Frankensteined up TT Bluesy that he had cobbled together. I thought it was the most bad ass thing ever.

Still love the watch.

Have NEVER owned one. Thought it was too flashy for me at a young age.

I am 43 now. Maybe about time?????

Got this right after watching the first Pierse Brosnan Bond movie back in 1995. I didn't know anything about watches back then, and found out years later that I actually bought the wrong model. Lol
