Rolex AD Discounting
In general, do Rolex ADs discount their watches ? Does Rolex have a policy that prohibits them form doing so ? In other words, can you negotiate a discount off MSRP for a watch they may have in stock in their display case? If so, what is the range of the discount you have experience recently on a particular model that is not in high demand?

It really depends on the model. PM receive the highest amount of discounting often to due to lack of demand and their high price. Stainless Steel seems to be rarely discounted now, if you can even find the watch you want.

They can give you the watch for free if they want to.
That said, you probably won't get a discount on a desirable SS model. On the other end you might be able to get 25% off a PM piece. Anything in between is whatever you can manage. |

I'm a novice waiting to get my first Rolex for my birthday but I have seen already 6 million posts confirming you wont get any discount with Rolex. A couple of guys managed to get £100 from their AD, that's it.

One of the sales people at the AD that I frequent at was using the shortage as an excuse to tell me there will be none, or minimal, discount given on Rolex watches in general. So watch out for AD trying to sell you a readily available and discount-able DJ41 without giving you at near 10% discount on it.
Looking at the asking prices by the trusted sellers here, should give you an idea of what you can expect to get the watch for. (Of course, through AD you will pay taxes etc.)

In this case, it depends on the country you are located in. melkyor2701 is in UK and must not have noticed OP is in USA. |

Last year yes. This year not as much. Some models you may still be able to negotiate a discount.

I would say £300 on average 2-6% is achievable on SS (from past exp)
Not sure about recent times though - cant seem to get to the buying table never mind a discount |

1. Be 100% sure exactly what watch you want. 2. Be 100% sure and know what the retail price is. 3. Be sure that this is not a popular hard to obtain model. (In that case you will never get a discount.) 4. Amass a list of very popular models that your dealer is unlikely to have. Choose a time when business is likely to be slow and go to the dealer. Ask for popular unobtainable watch X, Y and Z. Take your time. Act very very disappointed when the watches you pretend to want are not available. Now, tell the dealer that you had your heart set on a Rolex and you might be willing to compromise if he will work with you. Would a discount be available for watch A? If you play it like that you should have a chance to get a discount. I hope you realize that many people on here would jump through the most amazing hoops, just to pay retail price and get the watch that they want. |

Sad but true. When I consider other brands, like Breitling or Omega, I won't even think about paying retail, and use gray prices as a basis for how much under retail the watch can be had. When I consider Rolex, I think more about how long I will have to wait just to be able to pay retail, versus having to cough up gray premiums to get it now. It's hard to believe it was less than two years ago that I was able to grab my Sub for a nice discount.

I went to two ADs in the last week. One told me that they won’t discount any model, as I pointed to the many datejusts they had in their case, because their recent rarity. I felt like asking her if they’re so rare, why so many in the case? LOL, the fool
The second, where they’ve offered discounts in the past, told me there’s no discount on any Rolex models because they were recently “scolded” by Rolex. Don’t know the details, but she told me rolex had been sending ADs letters and so they no longer give discounts on any |

Earlier this year a Polar Ex2 could be gotten for less 5%. Now, a DJ41 SS can still be negotiated to less 5% depending on the AD. |

Fool proof method for 100% getting $200-$1000 off any watch without ever asking them for a discount:
Open 1 or 2 credits card with [$200-$500] sign up bonuses for spending 2k-3k in the first three months. Split the payment among the cards so it reaches the bonus thresholds for each. You should have no problem with this method as long as opening the new cards doesn't hurt your credit score and you have the cash to pay off the cards immediately. |

if it needs a discount i generally dont buy it because of that, and look at something else. Discounts are the enemy of value retention. Plenty of options that are priced at a good value relative to RRP.
Discounted watches leads to the someone else got a bigger discount than me game, and someone aways does, and you just overpaid. Watches selling at RRP and everyone plays the same game.

Even PM models are getting tougher on discounts if its for a professional series model. Daytonas are only around 10-15 off now for most models coming in at max from most AD's. Pretty nuts.

Always ask. Worst case they can say is no. In that scenario get some free gifts dinner etc.
If you were a repeat customer, you’d typically be able to get away with 10%-15% on all watches except hard to get pieces. Theres room to negotiate on rolex, Patek, vacheron etc. just not the sold out pieces... anything in stock can be discounted. The higher the price the more the discount |

15% discount for me on every SS model, even the "hot" sports models.
Just depends on the relationship with the AD I guess. |

Didn’t help that they were all AD’s from the Aurum group so they’d obviously be singing from the same songbook.

Really? I think even if an AD loves you off you'd still only get the hot models at retail, really can't see any reason why they would discount them at all to anyone legit.
