<<< Engraving >>>

Good day all.

Today while at the doctors office with my dad, I notice this gentleman wearing a very nice Bluesy

He sat down next to me in the waiting area and I notice that he has his watch engraved on the outside back of the case (where the helium escape valve would be located on a Seadweller).

I’ve never seen a watch engraved in this location before and it got me to thinking ... would any of you engrave a watch case in this location?

I get that case backs are engraved and easily replaced but the case it’s self! Seems crazy to me.

Thoughts?

I wouldn’t. Caseback is the best location for a reason.

I've seen that before. Probably wouldn't do it to my watches.

That’s like getting a tattoo on your face...you better be sure and it’s still probably not a good idea.

I’ve seen it. Not my style but if it’s a keeper, why not.

All these years, I have never seen a Rolex engraved on the case like that. Hard pass for me.

I saw that on a bluesy once. When he got closer it turned out to be an Invicta.

I think it depends on what was engraved really. I recall seeing a link to a vintage GMT for sale posted here, IIRC it was with the owners name on the side (was used in Vietnam) which was fitting for the use and time.

Are you sure the inscription didn't say "Invicta?"

To each their own, I have nothing against it but wouldn't want it on my own watch.

It can always be laser welded before refinishing

Some other manufacturers, like Omega, have watches that comes with inscription in the sides on limited editions (Seamaster 150th anniversary edition picture below). If he had it done on the 9 side guess he wanted it to be visible to him when he is wearing it (not possible obviously when done in the caseback).

Touché Tom. I still can’t get past that and the date display ... otherwise, I think I’d love to own one

If it’s a keeper, why not ?

Additionally, the case could be filled and refinished easily ..............
