I feel sorry for folks who think Rolex is the only brand to own, sure are missing out on a lot of cool watches.
Of note, the Seiko sub-forum here is quite active.

In the end I have finally concluded I am not a dress watch guy. Does not make any sense to tie up those resources in a watch I only wear a handful of times a year. While I love to look at and admire some of the finer dress watches out there, I will just admire them from afar....

It is very important to find one’s own way living with watches. I know people who enjoy their watches as museum pieces: watch is locked and unworn in safe-like conditions; someone wears only one watch, someone likes dress-watches, or practical... someone just waits the right monent to sell a watch. Plenty of different ways.
I feel that I am the one who has to live with the watch for some time—then I know if it is a keeper or not. Learning through mistakes (=loosing money...).
One hidden trap is that you might get carried away because that watch is that special piece which is so hard to get (everyone wants it!)—or that expensive that you think that this watch is truly something... You might buy the watch because of how the others’ are appreciating the watch—not because there is something that you personally like...

Most people dont jump straight to Patek or ALS and they also dont leave Rolex entirely when they do.

Yeah! Clear path!

Good point! All the different brands are giving their unique touch for us to enjoy. Different perspectives, history, legacy...
