Who enjoys the "Hunt"?

I have been back in a watch message board after sometime of hiatus. I have vintage pieces and sold my last modern Submariner for an Omega 2254. I remember 10 years ago the Red Subs were the hunt. Collectors were very picky, down to the dial, font and ft's and meters. Now that I am back with rifles and binoculars this time. I am ready for my next hunt.

Seeing that the 50th Sub have lowered in prices in the grey market I am going to start with an easy hunt of finding myself, perhaps, a nice 2003 produced LV. The actual year when our beloved Subbie hit the big 5-0. Haven't found one yet, mostly M-serials and ROLEXROLEXROLEX engraving on the sites I have checked. I am sure I can probably find one, it's been 5 years and some owners are probably attached to their watches by now.

OR

My 30th bday is coming and I thought I may go find the king of the jungle, the big whale and that is my birth year production Submariner. This may be very hard and I may never find one. Which would put it at 6 million productions....6xxxxxx(168x...x)

OR

A transitional Submariner when they applied sapphire crystal. This may be better for daily wear. Acrylics scratch too easy and this is as old as I can find with sapphire crystal and a little of that cream look on the markers.

Any vintage guys out there? Who enjoys the hunt and what were you looking for and how long?

It's great fun being on The Hunt! Actually, it's more than half the fun, IMO. My longest time was about 7 years for a S/S Daytona while the shortest time was 5 months from the time I laid eyes on a GV Milgauss to the time I bought it for the price I wanted.

I enjoy the hunt as well, though with vintage prices at their lowest point in two years, the hunt is much easier! I am now finding myself looking for better examples of pieces that I already have....and in some cases I am finding nicer pieces cheaper than what I paid! If I were you, I would look for a nice 1680 white Sub, they can be found for below 5K if you look hard enough. I see that you are in NorCal, if you are interested I can help you try to locate what you are looking for, just send me a PM!

I'm looking for a GMT 2.

It was introduced in 1983 and that happens to be my birth year!

Happy hunting ALL....
