Back in the day, you COULD just walk in and buy a sport Rolex easily. I hasn't affected demand or prices one bit. Have we already forgotten and are already used to the current state of things?

things have changed though and its undeniable mechanical watches are less relevant as i mentioned.

You could walk in and get one before, but that was also pre smart watches being totally mainstream as a lot has happened on that front over the past two or three years.

Swiss watch industry has been declining for several years, its back up on the uptick now and scarcity is happening at the same time. To me it indicates the uptick and the fact they are hard to get are related. Brands who don't make watches hard to get have remained much flatter as far as exports and overall demand

Nope. Not forgotten. But this isn’t back in the day. As Tyler has said, it’s a very different time now. We have the internet and instagram generations. Tastes, wants and fashions change.

And of course it affected demand and prices. Both were significantly lower “back in the day”. And not just because of the effects of inflation.

There was no secondary market premium for anything other than SS Daytonas back then.

Heck, even LVCs were selling at a discount just a couple of years ago.

If I know what I want and I couldn’t buy it locally then yes. Absolutely I would buy from Rolex.com.

In my experience these watches never look the same on the wrist as they do in images. I prefer to visit the dealer and try the watch on. I would rather reward the dealer for having the inventory and purchase through them if they helped me come to a conclusion.
