Explorer I harder to get than the new BLRO...
I’m talking about the Blackout Explorer of course...
Would you choose one over the new BLRO if both were available but you could only have one? |

I am anti PCL so I would go Explorer I Blackout. Plus, it would pair nicely with my Explorer II, so perhaps I am a bit biased.

The blackout is a proven rare model. The BLRO is the flavor of the week and demand will not remain where it is. It's already showing signs of slowing, and trust that it will be made in much larger quantities.
+1 for Blackout here. |

I don’t like any flavor of the Explorer I so I’ll take the gmt.

None of this stuff is rare. When I search on Chrono 24 a bunch of these pop up.

here you go....https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-bl...-explorer.html
still a regular looking explorer to me... more or less. Even forum guys dont know what it is... so there you go, not very "collectable" except in a really niche way and a forum about Rolex is too mainstream for it to me its buying a watch for no other reason than its "rare". I dont even want a regular explorer and i certainly wouldn't want a rare one.

“This “Blackout” execution of the ref. 14270 Explorer is widely-considered the rarest sapphire crystal Rolex.” I think that would make it one of the most collectible Rolexes... |

For example you probably should own an explorer 1 anyway before buying a blackout one as that would show you actually like the watch and last time i checked they were not flying off AD shelves.

Meh. Why do some people wet themselves with excitement at the thought of getting a flat four LV? It's the collector's mindset.

Same can be said about having to pick between a brand new baseball or an old scuffed up baseball that Babe Ruth happened to hit for his final home run... It’s the story and scarcity behind an item that can drive the desire to have that item ( and ultimately its value). |
