What are the odds? I know zilch about golf but would put my $$$ on Michelson since I think tiger has past his prime despite being popular on the circuit lately

If they were putting up their own money I'd be all over it. But no interest as it is.

As a spectator sport, golf is at its most compelling when the most is on the line.
Unfortunately, this match has next to nothing at stake.

Watching two multi-millionaires play for an additional multi-million?

Nah, maybe Curling Night in America will be on.

well if you want to bet on Mickelson you are getting good odds.

Tiger is -220 (bet $220 to win $100)
Phil is +180 (bet $100 to win $180)

Unfortunately or fortunately there is not much buzz for this. I wouldn't play either side of this one.

Ha! I Agree with you all... this is not like a great Boxing PPV Match and I am planning to be on the golf course, not watching or paying for this!

Seriously, if they were putting up their own cash and they were not getting paid to hype and sell PPV for the match, they we would have a real wager!

Agree

And, golf on TV is entertaining when they can move from player to player without a lot of dead time. This will be two guys. Watch them walk over here, walk over there, review the yardage book,... It will be pretty boring TV.

As I understand it, this is a $20 PPV event with the winners purse going to the charity of their choice. I’m a golf fan but doing this as a PPV event is ridiculous and short sighted.
No way will I sign up for this.

Would anyone know if you did a personal bet with someone, who would give up strokes to the other player...sort of like football.

Me too.

And can’t help thinking...

Neither of these guys needs the money.

I’d be more compelled if they were playing for bragging rights. Or maybe for charity.

Not a golf fan, but I do like Tiger. Either way, I’ll likely be knitting before I watch this.

I guess I’m the only one interested

I like the Phil / Tiger rivalry of old, and now that they’re at the tail end of their careers with a somewhat jovial relationship, I think it’ll be good television. Side bets could make it interesting as well

Besides who cares who’s money is on the line ... that’s alot to play for and there will be pressure and heckling to make it interesting

I hope Johnny Miller does the commentating

My thoughts exactly. It's not their own money and I've not heard one thing about any charitable component to it.

I enjoy watching golf on TV and I generally follow Phil and Tiger when they play anyway. So with a fridge full of Thanksgiving leftovers and no current plans for that particular lazy Friday afternoon there's a good chance they'll see my $20. I think I'll get out and play nine in the morning though.

Apparently both players have committed to donating a portion of their winnings to their individual foundations and other local charities. I had originally heard that all monies would be donated. Perhaps I misunderstood but for 2 gazillionaires to donate only “a portion” really rubs me the wrong way.

Per Golfweek:
“Golf Channel reported that Mickelson’s agent, Steve Loy, and Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, both confirmed that their players would donate some of their proceeds from the head-to-head event.”

My buddies are all getting together to watch. I watch so much golf that I’m shocked i have no interest in it. If i happen to be home, with absolutely nothing to do, and i don’t already have a tee time i will watch. Outside of that, i don’t care all that much. If they put up their own cash or it was a 5 man skins game with their own cash, i would love it.

Side bets, and the commentary, i just see it being super awkward. No way they are going to be talking the way they normally talk during big cash games. The public wouldn’t be able to handle it.

According to the HBO special that was just on - they are donating all their side bets to charity. The winner will use the 9M to put gas in his private jet etc etc.
No thanks....and I'm a big fan of both.
